THE UNION
stories (almost too many to mention) but I cannot write this piece without mentioning a few. First, to Robbie Crace for bringing new life to the Frisbee society; with Freddie Reed leaving there seemed to be little to push the society forwards, but Robbie’s energy resulted in the Dulwich team going undefeated two seasons in a row and getting a sharp-looking kit. The crowning achievement, however, may arguably be the fact that two boys were invited to play GB U20 Ultimate Frisbee team along with the Tooting Tigers Ultimate team, which Robbie continues to represent. Second, in the time I have been involved with the Union there is one success story above all others: the rise of DCTV. This society has demonstrated to what extent an interest can develop into a passion and even a career. Will Reid has been crucial to the success of the Union. His skilful filming, editing and direction of promotional videos perfectly reflects the dynamism that the Union brings to the cultural life of the College. I will conclude by saying that whilst I would like to think of the Union as a finished article or the complete package, I know all too well that this is not the case. The beauty of the Union is its constant evolution. Therefore, I would like to wish good luck to all those involved next year, specifically to Przemyslaw Macholak and Mr Pearce.
T he Union is as much a part of Dulwich as the Barry Buildings. It acts as a hub of shared interest, building relationships and mutual understanding around shared subject matter. Whilst the Union is run by all those who attend, lead meetings and invite speakers, there are a few people that must be mentioned in thanks: every head of society from 2012 -2014, you have helped make my job much easier and this applies to both the staff heads and, in particular, the Chairmen within the student body. However, the unsung hero of the Union is Mr Pearce, who has catalysed the transformation of the Union and brought it to its current strength. Over the last two years there have been a number of success This year the Union has continued to suppor t the wide range of co-curricular activity that goes on at the College and it has been rewarding to watch the growth of both new and more established societies.Year on year, the boys at Dulwich have been impressively proactive and motivated – the Union helps them to stand out as independent- minded and creative individuals. My thanks to all those who have given their time and care to this impor tant enterprise and special thanks to George Austin for his energetic and unfussy management in his role as this year’s Union Secretary.
