The Alleynian 702 2014

on statistical genetics during a fascinating lecture by Mr Seth Seegobin (a PhD student). This discussion reinforced the criteria for robust study, as we thereafter investigated and mathematically proved that the reliability of a study is dependent on sample size. Our entourage was then granted the pleasure of ambling through the Gordon Anatomy Museum, which houses an array of captivating biological specimens ranging from malformed mammalians, to conjoined twin foetuses, to double-headed foetuses, to heads and uteri infected with syphilis. Our very interactive day culminated in the much-

awaited results of our earlier investigation involving the separation of DNA strands. With bated breath, our results proved that we are in much need of further study, practice and experience in these processes. Notwithstanding this disappointment, we left as a group of inspired and better-informed future biologists, who now know the limitations of our knowledge in this fascinating field. Our sincere thanks to Professor Oakey, who organised the day, the Guy’s Hospital educational team and genetic researchers, and to Mr Lacheze- Beer and Dr McRobert for allowing us this privilege.
