Some people have been lending a hand since the first breakfast was organized by the late Russell Gauley three decades ago. “We get a lot of support from the community and businesses,” says Ber- nique, who has been coordinator for the past 10 years. This year, about 850 people attended the breakfast, raising $7,289.35, about $1,400 less than last year when the event drew about 1,100 people. The cool weather may have affected at- tendance, Bernique believes.
