VANKLEEK HILL | The Vankleek Hill May Show Festival has been scrubbed be- cause of a lack of support. However, another version of the popular long-weekend event is in the works. Last week, Phil Arber said he would no longer organize the activity. But since then, a dif- ferent format has been in the works, with art shows being planned at Arbor Gallery and the 3 Owls Gallery along with a Fenian Raid re-enactment. “It is with sincere regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2014 Vankleek Hill May Show Festival. This decision was not taken lightly, especially after 32 years of continuous presentations,” said Phil Arber. “The reasons are twofold – first and fore- most financial, and secondly, community support,” he said. The festival costs $11,000 to stage. Half comes from corporate spon- sorships and the balance is collected from participating artists and artisans. “We have lost two-thirds of our corporate support and have been successful in repla-

You Be The Judge Works by 20 artists will be exhibited at the Abbey for the Arts, 21489 Butternut Lane, Glen Nevis, in a show entitled You Be The Judge beginning May 10. The exhibition will feature a variety of 50 artworks, ran- ging from paintings and photography to sculpture and pottery. Visitors can pur- chase ballots and vote for their favourite piece of art. All proceeds from the vote will go to the winning artist.
