The Greatest Gift Christmas time is the season of gifts. What would be your answer, boys and girls, if you were asked whether you have ever received the greatest gift that has ever been given to this world? Would you be able to say, “Yes, I have the great est gift ever given” ? Remember that even though you might have many packages about your Christmas tree and though you might receive many costly gifts, if you do not have this greatest of all gifts, you are very poor indeed. Some people think they possess the great est gift when, to keep as their very own, they receive houses and automobiles and diamonds and gold, but many who have all of these things are sad and lonely. Those who have the greatest Gift of all have joy and peace and rest. Now wouldn’t you like to possess this great and wonderful Gift? This Gift, as perhaps you have guessed by now, is a Person. You may read about Him in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Yes, the greatest and most wonderful Gift ever given to people on this earth was the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son. If you have received Him as your Saviour, you indeed have the greatest of all gifts. Many of our gifts at Christmas time are hung upon Christmas trees. Did you know that our heavenly Father’s 1Gift to us was hung upon a “tree” ? It was not a beauti ful tree, for the Lord Jesus died upon a wooden cross, which is sometimes called a “tree” (Gal. 3:13). But just as our gifts at Christmas time must be received to be enjoyed and really owned, so the Lord Jesus, God’s love Gift, must be “received” or taken. In John 1:12, we read: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” To receive Him is to accept Him as the One who died on the cross in our place, bearing our, sins. He must be received or taken as our own personal Saviour from our sins. Do you remember the angel’s mes sage? It was: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Lk. 2:11). So now at this blessed season, won’t you receive this wonderful Gift o f, the Lord Jesus as your Saviour? “Receive” Him today, dear boys and girls, and then you can be sure that this Christmas season will be the happiest of all to you. Memory Work Question: What did the prophet Isaiah say the name of the Lord Jesus should be called? Answer: “And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6). Question: What did the angel say to the shepherds? Answer: “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tid ings of great joy, which shall be to all peo ple. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,' which is Christ the Lord” (Lk. 2:10, 11).

Question: What did the heavenly host say? Answer: “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Lk. 2: 13, 14). Question: What did the shepherds do after they had seen the Child Jesus? Answer: “And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them” (Lk. 2:20). Question: Why did the wise men travel to Bethlehem? Answer: “For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him” (Matt. 2:2). What Shall We Make? “W h a t shall

One Christmas I saw an unusual gift. The memory of it has stayed with me ever since. It was the love gift of a Bible class to their teacher. It was a small silver- tinted Christmas tree, an artificial one, dec orated with thirty tiny red envelopes, all the same size, tied to the branches by small pieces of red ribbon. Of course, the best part of the gift was that each envelope con tained a bright new dime. Wasn’t that a fine surprise? Each member of the class had given a dime, and in this way the tree really contained a gift of three dollars. Now wouldn’t this be a splendid gift for a K. Y. B. Club or Sunday-school class to give this Christmas to a missionary who is hoping to go to far-away people soon? What joy you will have in making a gift of this kind!—M. S. H. An Enigma [Each sentence in this puzzle represents a letter in the name of a city in which the Apostle Paul lived for a time. In working the puzzle, you will notice that “A” is the letter which occurs in both “Noah” and “Ark.” Therefore “A” is the first letter in the word you are trying to find.] My first is in Noah and also in ark. My second is in John but not in Mark. My third is in Timothy but not in Paul. My fourth is in Titus but not in Saul. My fifth is in Enoch and also in Lot. My sixth is in cold but not in hot. My seventh is in halt but not in lame. My whole is a city of Biblical fame. —R ichard J udson . New K. Y. B. C. we m a k e fo r' Christmas ?” is a q u estio n th a t many boys and girls as well as grown-ups are asking. T h e C h ris t m a s s e a s o n b rin g s to our m i n d s bells, s t a r s , . a n d Christmas trees. W hy no t cu t some of th ese out of colored paper—stars out of a golden yel low paper, bells out of red, and Christmas trees out of green ?

Put pictures from old Christmas cards in' the center of the bells and Christmas trees. Then, below these pictures, write a verse of Scripture. (Or, the picture may be omitted and only the verse written.) Every time you memorize a verse of Scripture from now until Christmas, write the verse on one of these cut-outs and place the colored star or bell on a long piece of ribbon. See how many you can have on your ribbon by Christmas! I am sure your mother will be very happy to receive such a Christmas gift as this, especially if she knows that all of these precious verses have been hidden away in your heart.—M.S.H.

A CH R ISTM A S W ISH By ESTELLA E. HOW ES

I wish I could hear the angels That came that starry night; I wish I could see the glowing star That shone so clear and bright; But best of all the wondrous sights, That came that wondrous day; I'd love to see the Holy Child Who in the manger lay.

A Christmas Gift Suggestion How many enjoy giving gifts? I’m sure you all do, especially at Christmas time when you are remembering that God gave His best to you on that first Christmas Day, in the gift of His only begotten Son.
