The following pictures and information in this month's Past Time Alabama gives us a chance to Reminisce about the some of those who were raised in DeKalb County and the surrounding areas. With the recent start of the new school year, we thought it would be fitting to share a few photos from eduction in North Alabama. The pictures on this page are from the Old Central School near Rodentown, Alabama. The Old Central School Building near Rodentown stood for many years after classes were no longer held at this location.

Old Central School in DeKalb County A group of unidentified students (above) pose for a picture at the Old Central School in the early 1900's. The Old Central School was located near Rodentown in DeKalb County, Alabama. According to reports the school was started in the 1800's and by 1894 the building had two rooms, two teachers and over 100 students most of the time. The school eventually moved to Rodentown and in the mid 1920's it was called Central Institute. The school reportedly changed its name to the Rodentown School, which was in operation until the mid 1950's. At one point in time the school had as many as five teachers. CROSSVILLE DISCOUNT DRUGS
