SYLVANIA STARTS YEAR AT 1-1 - The Sylvania Rams are off to a 1-1 start for the 2021 football season. The Rams, under the direction of first year head coach Tyler Vann, opened the season with a 42-32 loss to Saks. However, Sylvania rebounded in Week One to defeat the Sardis Lions 50-22 in the Etowah County schools home opener. The Rams will be trying for their second straight win in their next game, which is currently against Brindlee Mountain on Sept. 3. Sardis will be trying to win their first game this season, when they host Class 5A Region 7 opponent Douglas. The Eagles are 2-0 this year.

GUNTERSVILLE EARNS WIN OVER ARAB - The Guntersville football program earned a 29-21 victory over Marshall County rival Arab on Friday, August 27. The win improved the Wildcats' overall record to 1-1. Guntersville fell to Handley 55-21 in the 2021 kickoff game in Montgomery. Arab is also 1-1 on the season, after the Knights opened the year with 35-0 victory over county rival Albertville. Arab is set to open up Class 6A Region 7 action at Fort Payne on September 3. Guntersville will travel to Fairview to open up Class 5A Region 7 action on September 3.

Crossville football program is still seeking the first win of the 2021 season, as well as the first win for new head coach Josh Taylor. Crossville fell to New Hope in their week zero season opener and lost to DeKalb County rival Collinsville by one point, falling to the visiting Panthers 21-20 in week one. Caleb Causey ran for 52 yards on 22 carries and had two touchdowns against Collinsville. Steven Juan scooped up a fumbled field goal attempt and ran 76 yards for a touchdown. David Lesley had the two point PAT and earlier in the game he had a 60 yard run. The Lions were set to host the Boaz Pirates for week two action on Sept. 3. COLLINSVILLEIMPROVESTO1-1 -TheCollinsville Panthers football program opened the 2021 season with a 34-6 loss to Section, but rebounded for a thrilling 21- 20 victory over rival Crossville to improve to 1-1 overall. Keaton Deboard led the Panthers in the win over the Lions with 144 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 27 carries. He also passed for 71 yards and had two kickoff returns totaling 69 yards. Teammate Colton Wills rushed for 29 yards and had 63 yards receiving. He also had 32 yards on a kickoff and punt return. Fernando Padilla had two fumble recoveries for Collinsville. The Panthers are set to open Class 3A Region 7 action at Fyffe on Sept. 3. Fyffe leads the series 42-17-1. The Red Devils opened the year with 30-6 victory over Isabella. GERALDINE FALLS IN SEASON OPENER - The Geraldine Bulldog football program opened the 2021 season with a 28-26 loss at Westminster Christian on Friday, August 27. The game marked the official start of the Michael Davis coaching Era at Geraldine. The visiting Bulldogs rallied late against Westminster, but came up just short of tying the game in the final seconds after failing to make a two point conversion. Geraldine was set to open the 2021 home season on September 3 against the Asbury Rams. The game will also serve as Geraldine's annual homecoming. Asbury is coming into Geraldine with a 1-1 overall record. The Rams opened the 2021 season with a 33-8 victory over Gaston in week zero. Asbury fell to Whitesburg Christian 51-28 in week one action. Asbury is led by head coach Chris Williams.

Plainview Defenders #24 Arturo Medrano, #26 Dylan McCullough, #51 Austin Strickland, and #74 Mason Cooper attempt to stop Ider's #25 Jesse Massey during the Bear's season opening 28-14 victory over the Hornets. The Bears resume action at Pisgah on Sept. 3. Ider fell to 1-1 with the loss to Plainview. The Hornets opened the season with a 53-0 victory over Woodville. Ider is set to travel to Higdon to open Class 2A Region 7 action against NSM on Sept 3.
