WET WEEKEND FOR THE FAIR
GREGG CHAMBERLAIN nouvelles@eap.on.ca
The weekend weather was a little wet but the Vankleek Hill Fair carried on. The 180th edition of the annual began last Thursday with the popular and very welcome parade through the village core and finishing up at the fair grounds. Residents and visitors began settling in for the show a little while before the six o’clock start for the parade. The weather for that summer evening was warm and dry and children and adults alike enjoyed the several floats entered by businesses and other groups, along with the highland pipe band and the showcase of cowgirls and cowboys from the riding club. The tractor parade portion of the event was well-represented, with a new twist for this year. Several of the tractor drivers paused in their drive down Main Street and do-si-dohed in pairs as part of a show of squaredancing tractors. The warm weather continued for the rest of the evening and for the following Friday schedule of events. The weather turned cool and scattered showers on Saturday and Sunday but did not dampen the spirits of fairgoers.
