DJ's life was taken too soon, on July 1, 2013. He was killed in a crash by a driver who was a lifelong friend. DJ was a son, brother, and uncle, and was expecting his first child who was due to be born in October 2013. He was a friend to everyone he ever met. He loved to rap, he loved to hang out with friends. He loved to cook and he loved to make everyone have a great day. DJ was only 22 years old the day that he was killed but he died doing what he loved to do; protecting his friends and family. There were three other people in the car with DJ including a young lady who was in the back with him. Dusty threw himself over the girl to protect her because she had a daughter. DJ was just a passenger trying to help a friend who had been fighting with his parents. DJ's favorite food was biscuits and gravy and his favorite saying was, “Hey, do me a favor and have a great day”. The day I lost my son was the day that my life changed forever. I have felt nothing in my heart. The pain is unbearable. The hurt that I will never see my son again is just too much. DJ was the only fatality in this crash. Due to somebody's decision to drink and drive, DJ will never get to see his daughter grow. He will not get to see his nieces grow. It's just not fair that this crash affected so many people and communities. He was a great person. People have planted flowers in memory of him with the name: DJ mums.
