Bravo for these students!

GREGG CHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca

Student achievement is not always mea- sured in high marks, record-breaking athletic feats, or becoming president of the school council. Sometimes the most important thing a student can do is help make things better for his or her peers and that is what the Bravo Awards are all about. The Catholic District School Board of Eas- tern Ontario (CDSBEO) presents its annual Bravo Awards throughout its regional col- lection of school families. CDSBEO officials, local dignitaries, and families gathered in the cafeteria at St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School in Hammond early on Monday morning for a Bravo Breakfast salute to the nine students selected and named by their peers for their outstanding sense of community service in the Prescott-Russell and Stormont-Dundas family of CDSBEO schools. “This is a celebration of our students’ achievements and of the lives they lead,” said Tom Jordan, CDSBEO school effectiveness superintendent. William J. Gartland, CDSBEO director of education, created the Bravo Awards program several years ago to highlight the “unsung heroes” among school student populations, whose community spirit and service according to Catholic teachings, which he and other district officials noted, may not always receive as much recognition
