Longevity Wines is a family-owned, urban winery and certified minority-owned business based in the Livermore Valley wine region of Northern California. Founders Debra and Phil Long opened Longevity in 2008 when their winemaking hobby outgrew their garage. By that time, they had spent years visiting tasting rooms and saw a need for inclusive wine experiences. Their love of warm, welcoming spaces is evident in the cozy, barn-themed tasting room they designed together. Sadly, Debra was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016 and passed away in 2019. Phil draws his inspiration from their love story on a daily basis as he continues to build their brand. Longevity was named Livermore Valley’s Winery of the Year just a few days before Debra died and is now the third largest brand in Livermore Valley. Phil and his son, Assistant Winemaker Phil Long Jr., produce approximately 2,500 cases of Longevity Vintner Select wines in Livermore Valley. A partnership with Bronco Wine Company that began in 2019 allows Phil to make his Longevity Classic California wines on a much larger scale and bring Longevity to wine lovers across America and beyond.

THE STORY The year was 1924. It was the heart of the Prohibition Era and wine’s darkest hour when it was outlawed and deemed unconstitutional. It was also the year our family first planted vineyards in California and farmed grapes that were sold to friends and neighbors. Story goes some of these grapes might have been used to make wine.

The intrigue of wine comes from the philosophy that guides it. For us, that means allowing the grapes to be honest, unrestricted expressions of vintage and origin— in others words, “uncaged.” Our winemaking style is perfectly matched to the spirit of Z. Alexander Brown. It reflects our pursuit to create wines that offer bold, assertive flavors, good balance and supple tannins while capturing the richness of California’s North Coast.

To create the Stella Rosa wines, our family chose the region of Asti, a province in Piedmont, Italy, as the source for its aromatic grapes, which have become the hallmark for the Stella Rosa style of wines. The area of Asti has particular significance to our family, as it is the birthplace of our family matriarch, Maddalena Riboli. Our first Stella Rosa wine was Moscato D’Asti, which has become a flagship of this line. Soon after, Stella Rosa Rosso was created – the brand’s first semi-sweet, semi-sparkling red wine blend, and first wine of its kind to be brought to America from Asti. The rapid phenomenal successes of these two wines began the lineage of Stella Rosa, which now boasts over 20 distinctive flavors.

Riva de la Rosa pays tribute to the ingenuity of farmers and the beauty of this ancient land, a country surrounded by the sea and blanketed in the warmth of the sun. Roses offer winemakers early warnings against disease as they share the same soil and sun requirements as the vines and are often the first to be affected by diseases or pests due to their high sensitivity. This allows winemakers to take necessary precautions to protect the vines from damage. Beyond the natural beauty of having roses in the vineyards, this holistic approach helps indicate the health of the vines and removes the need for unnecessary intervention, allowing the grapes to yield natural, genuine fruit.

Authentic wines are always distinguished by their roots. They tell a story. Our wines tell of their origin, of the power of nature and the respectful treatment of soil, plants, animals and people. Our ideal is to be understood as a kind of “closed operating organism”, which, if possible, creates and utilises all elements of agricultural production itself. Rudolf Steiner, the father of biodynamic agriculture, called this ideal “farm individuality”. The result is pure origin: individual wines, shaped by their place of origin, created to the rhythm of nature. With patience, precision and minimal influence, independent, sometimes controversial … and always authentic.

Austin and his team know just how unique each part of Paso Robles can be. We seek out the vineyards from all over the Paso Robles AVA that best define Paso’s Cabernet Sauvignon. What you may find surprising is that east of the Salinas River, atop ancient flood plains and sea beds, is where we find the soils that drive the wine quality. Our region is well-known for its calcareous and limestone soils. We love them…in moderation. We find that a good combination of broken-down calcareous stones, disintegrated bedrock and gravel combined with loamy soils make magic! Some of our favorite vineyards are located within the Creston District and the Estrella District. Both are on the edges of ancient river beds where rocks wore down and mixed with the alluvial soils from the nearby hills. These special vineyard sites provide not only the right soil types and structure, but the right micro climate of warm days, cooling afternoon winds and cool nights. We thoughtfully direct the farming at theses vineyard sites to ensure the consistent quality of the Austin Hope Cabernet.

Austin Hope Chardonnay is a wine of pedigree, striking a perfect balance between classic California richness and fresh varietal expression. To create this wine, we draw fruit from Monterey and Santa Barbara, two nearby coastal regions renowned for producing world-class Chardonnay. Luscious yet focused, with expansive flavors of pear, golden apple and tropical fruit—a rarefied Chardonnay for those who want it all. In the words of Austin Hope, “Experimentation is how we chase perfection”—a mantra that is embodied by our Cellar Select wines. These ultra-limited releases are born of the Hope Family’s longtime relationships with top local growers, providing us with access to the finest blocks at preferred vineyards across Paso Robles and the Central Coast. Many of these wines originate from small experimental batches that yield some of our most creative, compelling and luxurious offerings, all collected under the banner of Austin Hope Cellar Select.
