parables and pearls

(AS FEATURED OVER THE BIOLA HOUR)

“The night is nearly over; the Day has almost dawned. Let us therefore fling away the things that men do in the dark. Let us be Christ’s men (and women) from head to foot, and give no chances to the flesh to have its fling!” * * * Salvation may come quietly, but we cannot remain quiet about it. * * * The famed woman missionary, Roslyn Goforth, wrote of the equip ment necessary for aservant of God. She said, “He must have a life yielded to the Lord; controlled by His Spirit. He must have a restful trust for the supply of all his needs, and he must have a sympathetic spirit and willingness to take a low ly place. He must have tact in deal ing with men, and an adaptability toward circumstances. He should have a zeal in service of steadfast ness despite discouragements. Above all, he must have a love for com munion with God and for the study of His Word.” These are the very things brought before our Biola stu dents who are preparing today for worldwide Christian service tomor row. * * * The fellowwho gets on a high horse is ridingfor a fall! Hr h h Ushers calling for help in carry ing the offering. Ministers insisting that people attend only one service in order to make room for others. A dozen people asking the pastor for some really definite work to do THE MISSIONARY AND HIS OUTFIT THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPEN IN CHURCH

God's heart should be our habita tion — may we let our hearts be God's habitation. * * * THE BREAKDOWN OF MORALS The Apostle Paul, under the in spiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote, “But you must realize that in the last days the times w ill be fu ll of danger. Men w ill be . . . utterly lacking in gratitude, purity, and n o rm a l human affections.” No where is such Scripture as graphi cally portrayed than through the rightful warnings sounded by our law enforcement officers. Chief of Police William H. Parker of Los Angeles recently declared, “I have to conclude that the American civil ization w ill one day destroy itself because of the general breakdown in public a n d private morality. Actually, that leaves only one ques tion: When?” Chief Parker went on to point out, “Today there is a ten dency to declare ‘legal’ that which formerly was illegal. This reflects a tolerance of behaviour that eventual ly w ill destroy our society.” He had reference to the December 21, 1961 California Supreme Court decision which threw out, or invalidated, a 37-year old ordinance in Los An geles for the control of prostitution. “Our philosophy seems to be that if the majority approves of a certain kind of behaviour, it is permissable and legal!” These are certainly signs of the times in which we are living. May God help us not to be ensnared in the folly of the day, and to pray for those leaders who do uphold truth and righteousness. And then to do as the Apostle Paul has enjoined,
