unity when based on infallible truths. Some of the great discoveries of our time have come from those who had unshakable faith in the Word of God. For instance Alexan der Flemming, the chemist, who dis covered the first bit of penicillin. He found a tiny bit of gray mold which had drifted in an open win dow joining the bacteria life on his glass table top. Almost from the start, he knew he had something wonderful as an antibacteria agent. Setting out to find its origin, he discovered it had come from the moldy leaves of a plant known as hyssop. As a result, perhaps no greater life-saving agent has ever been discovered. From the moment it is caught away in the blood stream, penicillin begins its bat tle against infection and death, puri fying and purging the infected areas. What a picture this is of what the Psalmist meant when he said, “Purge me with hyssop and l shall be clean!” This is the power of the cross. For the moment we as sinners repent and surrender our selves to Jesus Christ as Saviour, then the m ighty and effective power of the atonement enters our lives purging away the infections arid cancer of sin, bringing not just life but everlasting, eternal life. And the God of peace shall be with you” (Philippians 4:8, 9). * * * When considering the needs of missions, don't fail to do something just because you can'tdo everything. * * * THE BIBLE AND OUR FOUNDING FATHERS Our nation is rich in spiritual heritage. Think of what some of the leaders of this country have had to say concerning Gods Word. For in stance, George Washington declared, “The only basis for a continuing existence is to be found in keeping the country reading God’s Word up on its knees.” John Quincy Adams said, “The first and only book de serving of universal attention is the Bibles. I say to you search the Scrip tures.” Calvin Coolidge emphatical ly remarked, “The strength of this country is the strength of its Chris tian convictions and these can come only from the Word of God, the Bible.” A sobering thought was put forth by Thomas Jefferson who stat ed, “Yes, indeed, 1 tremble for my country when 1 reflect that God is ju st”. Only a few voices from out of the past. Yet, we do not look to men for strength; we look to God for the power and wisdom today and tomorrow to guide our country. The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise that they are vain, therefore let no man glory in men but let us humble ourselves as a nation, turn fromworldliness and seek G o d through Jesus Christ, f o r other foundation can no man lay that that is laid which is Christ Jesus the Lord. * * * One reason the courts don't handle so many drunken driving cases is that the undertaker gets them first. * PENICILLIN IN THE BIBLE It is a fact that true science and the Bible are never at odds for they always form a perfect picture of * *
