It’s often said that everyone wins when you put patients first. Patient Recognition Week is the first week of February — a time to honor and appreciate the individuals who entrust us with their health and well-being. At our clinic, we proudly uphold the motto “person first, patient second,” recognizing that our patients are not merely diagnoses but unique individuals with stories, passions, and aspirations. This week is dedicated to acknowledging our patients’ resilience, trust, and courage as they navigate their health care journey. In physical therapy, where healing and recovery take center stage, fostering a patient-centric approach is paramount. Our commitment extends beyond addressing physical ailments; it encompasses ensuring our patients have the best possible experience throughout their therapeutic journey. From the moment they walk through our doors, our goal is to make them feel seen, heard, and valued as individuals.
the complexities of insurance, we take it upon ourselves to demystify the process. Navigating insurance can often feel like grappling with a complex beast, and our team strives to provide clarity and guidance, eliminating any surprises for our patients. By easing their fears and offering transparent communication, we empower our patients to focus on their well-being without the added stress of financial uncertainties. Often, our patients come to us in pain and discomfort. We approach their care empathetically and deeply commit to alleviating their suffering. Our team operates under the philosophy that effective care extends beyond physical rehabilitation — it encompasses addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of healing. By prioritizing open communication, we create a space where patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns, fears, and goals. As part of our patient-centric approach, we conduct monthly patient case conferences, bringing together our team of physical therapists
In a year marked by unprecedented challenges and staff shortages, we extend heartfelt gratitude to our patients for their understanding and patience. We acknowledge that meeting a new therapist can be an adjustment, and we appreciate our patients’ trust in us as we work collectively to ensure continuity of care. Despite the occasional frustrations that may arise during this transitional period, our patients’ unwavering support fuels our commitment to delivering exceptional care. Our patients are more than medical cases — they are individuals with rich and diverse lives. Taking the time to know our patients beyond their diagnoses is integral to our approach. Whether they enjoy hiking, have an upcoming ski trip, or eagerly anticipate holding a grandchild, these personal details influence how we tailor their care. Building these personal connections enhances the effectiveness of their rehabilitation and strengthens the bond between our team and our patients. As we celebrate Patient Recognition Week, we extend a heartfelt thank you to each of our patients. Your resilience, trust, and willingness to embark on their healing journey with us inspire and motivate our team daily. It is an honor to be part of your lives, and we look forward to supporting you on your path to moving better, feeling better, and most importantly, living better. THE REMARKABLE RISE OF WREXHAM AFC
In the world of football, fairy tales still exist, and Wrexham AFC’s return to the Football League after 15 years is living proof. At the heart of this Cinderella story are two vital elements: the club’s transformation under the ownership of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and the heroics of Paul Mullin, a striker whose performance was pivotal in the team’s promotion. Wrexham AFC’s journey required resilience. When fans in the form of the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust took control of the organization in 2011 following financial struggles, they set the stage for the club’s comeback. The revival gained momentum in 2021 thanks to the $2.5 million investment of Reynolds and McElhenney. Their vision was not just tied to their financial input; it was about keeping the club rooted in the community in Wales. And thanks to their work, crowds once numbered in the hundreds now roar with thousands of passionate fans. Amidst the transformation, Mullin emerged as the team’s talisman. His 38 league goals, including crucial strikes in the decisive game against Boreham Wood, were instrumental in sealing Wrexham’s promotion. Mullin’s journey reflects the club’s own — filled with determination and a relentless pursuit
of success. His scoring propelled the team to new heights and reignited the spirits of a town that breathes football.
The streets of Wrexham, once quiet, now resonate with the cheers of red. Pubs packed, the atmosphere electric, and the community united — the impact of Wrexham’s success transcending beyond the field. It’s a story that captures the essence of football: the unifying power of a team’s triumph, the joy it brings to its supporters, and the realization of dreams long lost. Reynolds and McElhenney’s presence in the stands, alongside the fans, epitomizes the club’s journey. Their emotional investment and Mullin’s on- field heroics have written a new chapter in Wrexham’s history. “The takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has been surreal, but they seem genuinely sincere. They don’t just seem to be here to make a documentary and leave after two years … There’s been more good press coming out of Wrexham recently than there has been for decades — how could you not be happy with that?” Joe Gill, 34, a fan from Nantwich, England, told The Guardian.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING
“I was a jiggly blob and couldn’t even lift a pound of weight. Two years of sedentary life and surgeries left me weak. The wonderful staff brought me back to my former competitive level of fitness. I feel stronger and full of energy — ready to continue riding and learning fencing. Thank you!” —Jill Studer

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PILLOW FOR A PAIN-FREE MORNING
Back Sleepers: A Balancing Act Back sleepers need a pillow that supports the natural curve of their neck. A too-high pillow can strain neck muscles, while a too-flat one can cause your head to fall back, both leading to morning discomfort. Ideally, a medium-thick pillow, preferably memory foam, works best. It cradles your head and neck, providing a balanced alignment. Side Sleepers: Height Matters Side sleepers have a larger gap to fill between their head and the mattress. A firm, high pillow is essential to align your head and neck with your spine. Memory foam or a high-fill down pillow are excellent choices as they conform to the shape of your neck and head, ensuring optimal support. Stomach Sleepers: The Flatter, the Better Stomach sleeping is generally not recommended due to the strain it puts on your neck and back.
Waking up with a stiff neck or a throbbing headache is the worst way to start your day. Often, the culprit is as simple as the pillow you rest your head on. Choosing the right pillow based on your sleeping position is not just about comfort but neck health and sleep quality. Here are three options for your best pillow based on how you sleep.
However, if this is your preferred position, choose a flat or no pillow. This helps keep your neck as straight as possible. A soft down pillow or a thin memory foam can work wonders in providing just the right amount of comfort without compromising your neck’s position. If you’re unhappy with your sleep position, gradually shift your sleep position. For instance, if you’re a stomach sleeper, try moving to side sleeping with body pillows for support. Remember, changing habits takes time, and comfort is the key to a good night’s sleep. Your pillow plays a pivotal role in ensuring a pain-free wake-up call. Choosing the right one for your sleeping position enhances your sleep quality and invests in your neck’s long-term health. Say goodbye to those pesky neck pains and unwelcome headaches, and embrace mornings filled with pain-free vitality.

Q: “I WOKE UP WITH PAIN IN MY FOOT THREE DAYS AGO, AND IT HASN’T GONE AWAY. CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP ME?”
A: This is a common question we hear from a lot of people.
Before I answer this for you, I want to walk you through a simple test. We will call it the “Foot Pain Audit,” and it will tell us if PT can help you or not.
Phase 1: The “Stand and Walk in the Morning” Test 1. After waking, stand up and walk 3 feet. 2. When you bear weight, does it hurt on the bottom of your foot or heel? 3. Does your pain go away as the day goes on?
Is your pain worse in the morning after you wake up, or is it the same all the time? If you felt pain, soreness, or stiffness standing up in the morning, then check here. Phase 2: The “YES” Toe Pull Test 4. Sit in a chair, keeping a good posture. 5. Cross your painful foot over the opposite leg (like you are sitting like a man) and pull your big toe back toward your ankle as far as possible. 6. Repeat with your other big toe. Did you have any pain, soreness, or stiffness in one toe more than the other? If so, write it down here, and note what you felt and what movement it was. (For example, “My right toe was stiff and could not go back as far as my left one.”) _______________________________________________________________________________________ Phase 3: The “Plantar Fascia Tenderness” test: 7. Sit in a chair, keeping a good posture. 8. Cross the painful foot over the opposite leg. 9. Press your fingers into the arch of your painful foot. Was one side more tender than the other? Write down what you felt here: ________________________________________________________________________________________ Now that the test is done, what were the results? A simple rule we use in PT is: If the pain is “Reproducible,” then it’s “Reducible.” This means that if one of these movements made your foot pain, soreness, or stiffness worse, then there’s a good chance we can help you in physical therapy.
How does physical therapy help? 1. A thorough exam is performed to help determine the cause of the problem. 2. Successful treatment involves: • Manual, hands-on therapy.
• Stretching and strengthening exercises to include the body as a whole, not just the foot. • Assessing shoe wear and making recommendations for foot support appropriate for you. • Dynamic taping is used in the short term to support the arch and reduce pain. Research has shown stretching the calf muscles is effective in preventing the worsening of symptoms, especially in the early stages. Correct alignment of the foot and knee is important for the stretch to be effective. With the following stretches, keep the inside arch of your foot lifted slightly and knee tracking
over the second toe. You should feel a stretch in your calf or back of the heel. Hold for 30 seconds, and repeat three times on each side, three times a day.
