The City of Cornwall received a $10,000 donation from Shoeless Joe’s on January 29 through the restaurant’s Home Team Advantage Program. The funds will go towards improvements to the City’s recreational path. Former Cornwall Royal and NHL great Doug Gilmour was on hand to help celebrate the announcement. Working closely withMayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy, Shoeless Joe’s and the City have decided the funds will go towards painting a centre line throughout the recreational bike path system. Cornwall’s recreational path is one of the city’s most popular recreation assets and one of the busiest, and this new centre line will help keep traffic in order. URGENT!

New dining map for downtown Over the past few years, downtown Cornwall has grown into a dining destination, with a wide variety of restaurants ready to tantalize taste buds. From the fast-food stops in Cornwall Square to the fine dining venues on Pitt Street, downtown Cornwall’s restau- rant scene has something for everyone. Figuring out what restaurant to try next is now a little easier with the creation of a new story map highlighting Cornwall’s downtown restaurants. The interactive map features 27 different restaurants in the city’s urban core with photos and descriptions of each as well as links to additional information. The map also displays parking lot locations. The map was produced by St. Lawrence College jour- nalism student Alina Martin, who is currently completing a one-month internship with the Economic Development department. $20,000 allocated to Cornwall Manufacturing companies located in Cornwall and the region may be eligible for a new program that offers 50 per cent reimbursement of training costs. The Eastern Ontario Manufacturing - Skills & Jobs Initiative is being funded under the Eastern Ontario De- velopment Program administered by FedDev Ontario. An amount of $160,000 has been allocated to distribute throughout the region, with $20,000 for Cornwall. “Companies are invited to contact our office and discuss how this program can help them,” said Di- ane Soucie, Senior Project Officer with the Eastern Ontario Training Board. “The amount available to each company will depend on program take-up in the region, and in Eastern Ontario as a whole. We can definitely fund more than one training session per company.” Scientists at the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences are eager to use a new flow meter that was donated recently by Greyline Instruments Inc. in Long Sault. “We are very grateful to Greyline Instruments for this donation,” stated Dr. Jeff Ridal, executive director at the River Institute, “This instrument will be used for many different projects at the River Institute. For example, it will be used to as- sess the impacts of stormwater runoff and discharge from industrial sites. It will also be used to understand the spatial patterns of contaminants in sediments, and it will help us characterize fish habitat and identify sites suited for species rehabilitation.” Pictured are Dr. Jeff Ridal (River Institute), Ingo Rutenberg (Greyline), Ernie Higgin- son (Greyline), Louis Savard (River Institute) and Bill Sullivan (Greyline).
