“We do our best to predict what the

No Crystal Ball, Just Experience OUR APPROACH TO PROTECTING YOUR INVESTMENTS AND RETIREMENT

market will do ... The problem is that we have no Punxsutawney Phil — we don’t even have a crystal ball.”

This month, we celebrate Groundhog Day, when Punxsutawney Phil shows up at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The theory is if he sees his shadow, we will be graced with six additional weeks of winter, and if he doesn’t, spring will come early! In thinking about this, I could not help but think about Campbell Wealth and what we do for our clients. We do our best to predict what the market will do so we can position your investments to take advantage of an up market but help protect them in a down market. The problem is that we have no Punxsutawney Phil — we don’t even have a crystal ball. But, what we do have is Mark Wagner, our CFA, his great team, and their collective years of experience. Last year, Mark worked to create a competitive rate of return from what was a very volatile market. As a matter of fact, at the beginning of the year, everyone thought the market was going to be negative, but it turned out to be far from that, and Mark was able to position the portfolio to help capture that return. Last year’s return rested mainly on positioning because not everything in the market did well. The technology sector performed well in 2023 and greatly impacted portfolio returns. Now, in 2024, the hope is that we will be able to provide another great year, but there is still a concern about volatility in a down market. Unfortunately, as we know, the stock market doesn’t always go up — in fact, as a retiree or a soon-to-be retiree, you could expect the market to go down about 15%–25% of the time. This means we can plan on a down market every five years or so.

Now, the question is, how much of that down market do you participate in? Our job at Campbell Wealth Management is to capture that

“up” side when the market is doing well but also to limit the “down” side when it’s performing poorly. Remember: This isn’t the only thing we do for you — investment management is only one piece of it! Your wealth manager and client service advisor team are responsible for navigating your financial plan and helping you follow a consistent plan for retirement. They review your positioning, income, taxes, minimum required distributions, and your legacy/estate plan. They are there for you to call at any time, whether the market is up, down, or sideways, and help you make the best possible decisions for retirement. Not only is your wealth manager a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, but they also work under the fiduciary standard, always looking out for your best interests. Our communication team also works to set up different events for you to attend, which include educational events, fun and experiential events, and even our annual Life Beyond Numbers event held in October of each year. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and at Campbell Wealth, it takes a team to deliver the consistent value we bring. So, I want to thank our team for all the hard work and you for the trust you place in us! Let’s hope that Punxsutawney Phil delivers what you’re looking for, whether that’s a longer winter or an early spring!

GREEN THUMBS, FULL HEARTS

Healthy Eating: Harvesting your own vegetables ensures a supply of fresh, organic produce. This home-grown food is free from harmful pesticides and richer in nutrients, contributing to a healthier diet. If you have extras, you can share your harvest with others, helping to improve their diets, too! Mental Health: Gardening is therapeutic. It reduces stress and promotes a sense of accomplishment. It’s also a source of new learning and curiosity. You may need to do some research to learn about the best zones for various plants and techniques to keep them healthy. Watching plants grow from seeds to harvest can be incredibly satisfying and a great way to boost mental well-being. Environmental Impact: Tending to the Earth Responsibly Organic gardening is environmentally sustainable. By avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides, gardeners protect the soil and local wildlife. Home-grown vegetables mean fewer trips to the store and less packaging waste, contributing to a smaller

carbon footprint. So, by gardening, you’re participating in an eco-friendly practice. Social Connection: Growing Community Ties Gardening offers opportunities to connect with fellow gardeners, share tips, and exchange produce, fostering a sense of community. Inviting grandchildren or neighborhood kids to the garden can educate them about where food comes from and the importance of sustainable practices. If you participate in a community garden, these benefits, in particular, contribute to a sense of well-being because you’re getting active in the community, making friends, and sharing your knowledge with others. It’s a win-win. Organic gardening in retirement is not just about cultivating plants; it’s about cultivating a healthier lifestyle, a better environment, and stronger community bonds. It’s a hobby that offers endless learning, joy, and satisfaction, making retirement not just a time to relax but also a time to thrive.

The Garden Path to Joy

Retirement opens the door to new hobbies and activities. Among these, cultivating an organic vegetable garden could be a fulfilling and beneficial option. This activity provides your body with healthy exercise and fresh produce and can rejuvenate your mind and soul. Health Benefits: A Natural Boost for Well-Being Physical Activity: Gardening is a gentle way to stay active. Bending, planting, and tending to vegetables are excellent low-impact exercises that improve flexibility and strength. Plus, it doesn’t feel like you’re exercising because the activity is goal-focused.

Building a Strong Financial Future With Medicare

Planning for retirement involves navigating a complex landscape of financial considerations, and one crucial element that should be an integral part of your strategy is Medicare. As you embark on this journey toward your golden years, understanding the significance of Medicare can be the key to safeguarding both your health and financial well-being. Medicare, the federal health insurance program primarily for those aged 65 and older, offers a comprehensive array of coverage options that can significantly alleviate the burden of health care costs during retirement. Health Care Coverage for Seniors Medicare provides essential health coverage tailored to the needs of seniors. From hospital stays to preventive services and prescription drug coverage, it offers a robust framework to address the medical needs that accompany aging.

Financial Security Unforeseen medical expenses can pose a significant threat to your financial stability during retirement. Medicare acts as a safety net, helping to mitigate the impact of health care costs and preventing them from depleting your retirement nest egg. Preventive Care and Wellness Services Medicare places a strong emphasis on preventive care, offering a range of services aimed at identifying and addressing potential health issues before they escalate. Regular check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations contribute to overall well-being and can potentially prevent more serious conditions. Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D) The cost of prescription medications can be a substantial financial burden, especially for those managing chronic conditions. For a yearly or monthly fee, Medicare Part D provides coverage for prescription drugs, offering relief from the high out-of-pocket costs associated with necessary medications.

Flexibility in Coverage Options Medicare offers plans that allow you to customize your coverage. The foundational coverage is provided by Part A and Part B, sometimes called Original Medicare — the government pays for your medical expenses. Or you can choose Medicare Advantage (Part C) and supplemental coverage (Medigap), which are offered by private companies — the government pays these companies to cover your Medicare expenses. Access to a Broad Network of Providers Medicare provides access to a wide network of health care providers, ensuring that you can receive care from professionals and facilities that meet your preferences and standards. As you embark on the journey of retirement planning, don’t overlook the pivotal role that Medicare plays. Have a question about Medicare and how it can benefit you? Please reach out today! Our team is ready to help!

Tank’s story is more than a viral sensation; it’s a testament to the deep bond between dogs and humans. His actions remind us of dogs’ invaluable role in our lives, offering unconditional love and unwavering protection when needed.

His heroic act, captured in a TikTok video with over 45 million views, showcased the extraordinary bravery of our canine companions. Tank’s story begins on an ordinary day that quickly turned extraordinary when he saved his owner’s 6-year-old son from a dog attack in November 2022. As the young boy played in the front yard of his South Florida home, a neighboring dog, unrestrained and aggressive, charged toward him. In an instant, Tank leaped into action. The dog pushed the boy to the ground and then placed himself between the boy and the oncoming threat, averting a possible tragedy. Tank’s quick thinking and fearless stance saved him and demonstrated the innate protective nature of German shepherds. German shepherds are a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club for their loyalty and protectiveness, making them the first choice for families seeking a dependable guardian. Like many German shepherds, Tank possesses a

The boy’s mom wrote on social media that Tank is their “highly skilled professional home security officer.”

“This is Tank & no, he is not professionally trained. He’s just a man with killer instincts, who loves a good chew toy,” she wrote after posting a video of Tank playing with his favorite toy. In today’s world, Tank stands out as a true hero. As we watch Tank’s story, we are reminded of the extraordinary capabilities of our four-legged friends and their profound impact on our lives. It’s a reminder that sometimes, heroes don’t wear capes; they have four paws and a tail.
