OFTEC OFFERS UPDATES ON TRAINING CENTRES FOR TECHNICIANS LOOKING TO REFRESH TRAINING AND UPDATE QUALIFICATIONS FOR REGISTRATION... OFTECand training

”OFTEC would be keen to see a similar scheme to TrustMark launched in NI and the ROI to help drive up standards in the plumbing and heating industry” Heating technicians can now apply for TrustMark registration as an extension of their OFTEC registration to access government funded installation work in participating regions. The scheme gives consumers a certain level of expectation of the way a registered business will carry out work in their home. Plus, if a problem does arise, TrustMark offers a clear means of redress to help give further reassurance and protection to consumers. It will be interesting to see if this is replicated in Northern Ireland and the Republic - it’s certainly something OFTEC would be keen to see introduced to the local market to help improve standards. As work slowly gets back to a new normal, many technicians are asking about training and assessment in order to refresh skills and update qualifications for registration. The good news is that OFTEC’s network of over 90 independent OFTEC-approved training centres offers a wide range of courses, designed to give you the competencies you need to succeed in the heating industry. T rustMark is the UK Government Endorsed Quality Scheme which covers work carried out in or around homes and is a requirement for ECO or Green Home Grant work.

Many offer an extensive range of courses, as well as OFTEC’s oil courses:

• OFT10-101 (Pressure jet service/commission) • OFT10-102 (Vaporising service/commission) • OFT10-105E (Oil appliance installation) • OFT10-201 (Multistage service/commission) • OFT10-600a (Tank and supply installation/service) • OFT15-108 (Solid Fuel install/service/commission) • OFT18-108S (Solid fuel service/commission) • OFT50 (Oil firing introductory course) • Part P • Biomass • Heat Pumps • Solar Thermal • Unvented Hot Water

Most centres are open again for business but may be accepting fewer candidates on each course which means they need to be booked further ahead to secure a place. Note that they will have made significant changes to the way they operate to meet government guidelines and you should check what additional requirements each centre has put in place before attending. Your chosen centre will be able to advise you on their opening times and any restrictions in place. A full list of centres can be found at www.joinoftec.com/find-your-local-training-centre
