UCPR CELEBRATES NORMAND RIOPEL’S SECOND TERM AS WARDEN

Warden’s Award was also presented for only the second time in the banquet’s history. This year’s recipient, François Bellemare, was honored for his commitment to the community as both a volunteer firefighter and a devoted community volunteer. The evening also served as a fundraiser for local non-profit and community organi- zations. Funds raised through the Warden’s Golf Tournament and Banquet will be distri- buted during the UCPR Inaugural Meeting on December 18, 2024. Since 2018, the event has raised over $167,000 for the Prescott and Russell community, further cementing its role as a cornerstone of regional philanthropy. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) hosted its annual Warden’s Banquet at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute on Saturday, Nov. 23, celebrating Mayor Normand Riopel of Champlain Township as he concluded his second term as Warden. The event drew a large crowd, including family, friends, political figures from various levels of government, and community leaders from across the Prescott and Russell region. Sponsored by the Hawkesbury and Dis- trict General Hospital, the banquet was a resounding success, showcasing not only Warden Riopel’s contributions but also the dedication of numerous individuals who have shaped the region. “I am proud to have shared the stage with so many fellow citizens at the Banquet,” said Warden Riopel during his address. “By working with the UCPR Council and staff, community partners, and regional leaders, a Warden can advance significant projects and achieve meaningful goals. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me over the past year and believed in my vision for Prescott and Russell.” The evening included tributes to notable public figures. Pierre Leroux, Mayor of the Township of Russell from 2014 to 2024, was honored for his political career, including his service as UCPR Warden in 2020 and the early months of 2024. Robert Kirby, Mayor of East Hawkesbury, was also recognized for his two decades of leadership. Kirby, who served as Warden in 2009, 2015, and 2019, continues to make significant contributions to the region. The event also featured the 10th annual JP St. Pierre Award ceremony, named in honor of Jean-Paul St. Pierre, the late Mayor of Russell Township. The award recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact in their communities. This year, the award was presented to two recipients. Marcel Belle-Isle was recognized for over 60 years of volunteer work, particularly with youth-fo- cused organizations, while Connie Johnston was celebrated for her extensive involvement in community groups and fundraising initia- tives in the Russell area. The Warden’s Award was presented to Julie Delorme, Nursing Supervisor at the Prescott and Russell Residence, in reco- gnition of her 15 years of dedication, crea- tivity, and passion that have made her an invaluable asset to the facility. Le Bureau de santé de l’Est de l’Ontario (BSEO) se prépare à lancer un nouveau programme parental, «Triple P» pour bébé, au début de l’année 2025. Cette initiative, conçue pour les futurs parents et ceux ayant des enfants de moins d’un an, vise à promouvoir des techniques de parentalité positive afin de favoriser le développement social, émotionnel et com- portemental des bébés. Diane Lalonde, gestionnaire de pro- gramme au BSEO, a souligné l’importance de cette ressource pour les nouveaux parents. « Si vous attendez un enfant ou êtes un parent fier d’un enfant de moins de 12 mois, la nouvelle série Triple P pour bébé est pour vous », a-t-elle déclaré. « Les enfants ne viennent pas avec des manuels d’instruc- tions, mais si vous souhaitez en apprendre davantage sur la parentalité positive et construire une relation solide avec votre bébé, ce programme est une excellente ressource. » Triple P pour bébé comprend huit séances, dont quatre ateliers de groupe suivis de quatre consultations téléphoniques indivi- duelles.
