If you would like to make a donation to the school please use this link. Year 9 students have taken part in a Culturally Speaking event this week, visiting the London Transport Museum Depot on Wednesday to meet engineers and learn about this industry. This was followed on Thursday by a workshop led by the Speakers Trust. The students enjoyed having an opportunity to talk about issues that matter to them and this is an excellent example of how we empower our students, encouraging vital public speaking skills and building confidence in using their voice. We have had a number of other trips out this week. Year 12 Fashion students visited the Victoria and Albert Museum on Tuesday to gather inspiration for their own designs. On Wednesday Year 10 students participated in a STEM workshop at Hampton High school, while Year 12 Biologists attended a Biology in Action Conference where they heard about key issues in Biology from genetics to environmental challenges. Finally can I congratulate all our Year 11 and 13 students who have been involved in exams over the last two weeks. They have worked incredibly hard and I am sure they are all looking forward to a rest over the weekend. In the coming weeks teachers will be working through the key learning points and to help students focus their final areas for revision.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is coming up soon, which aims to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. Neurodiversity manifests differently in girls, so it can take longer to be diagnosed as the ‘usual’ characteristics to look out for are not always present. Additionally, research tells us that girls who are neurodiverse are even more at risk of experiencing mental health issues. In fact, often the neurodiversity in girls masquerades as a mental health issue, complicating the diagnostic process further. In the most recent episode of the podcast ‘On Educating Girls: The Connected Girl’, Emily Rushton, Girls Day School Trust SEND Consultant, discusses neurodiversity in girls. Emily is neurodiverse herself and talks about how to ensure support for neurodiverse girls is grounded in recent research and applicable in everyday life. I would highly recommend this episopde as well as other recent episodes on ‘Guidance for Girls in the Age of AI’ and ‘The Power of Knowing You Matter’, please clink on the link above to access these.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
Last week Year 9 had an assembly all about resilience in sport from our Deputy Head Ms Lane. It was a really thought provoking topic and definitely resonated with our year group. She spoke about Swansea football team, their determination and club mentality which led to their promotion into the English league. I know that we have many budding sporting champions in Year 9 and I hope that we were all able to take away an important message about teamwork. Year 9 had an exciting trip to the Transport for London Museum on Wednesday, followed by a workshop on Thursday developing oracy skills with the Speakers Trust. Both these activities are part of the Culturally Speaking project, aimed at helping prepare young people for post-school working life. These were lots of fun and I hope sparked conversations at home! Our Epraise totals for this week are as follows: 9EMU in first place, 9PWA in second and 9SSR in third. The students at the top of our Year 9 leaderboard are: Anastasiia M, Ella R-J, Mia C, Olivia M and Poppy B. As we celebrated World Book Day this week with a quiz about books and a book event in school - I would en- courage those at home to continue this conversation about reading at home. In English all Year 9 students are taking part in a ‘Reading Challenge’. This is a dedicated reading lesson which students have weekly or biweekly in school. Students are encouraged to choose books which will challenge them or try to inspire them to read more. This would provide an opportunity for you to share books that you have read or have inspired you, and this will hopefully support their Reading Challenge in school. Lastly, a reminder that we have the Scholastic Book Fair in school next week - further details on pages 4,5 & 6. Have a lovely weekend!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘One of Us is Lying’ by Karen M. McManus The book is set in a high school, where five teenagers Addy, Cooper, Nate, Bronwyn and Simon all end up in detention together. A few minutes into the detention a car accident happens right outside, while their teacher hurries out to check what has happened, one of the students, Simon, falls dead. The remaining four students are the main suspects because they were present during his death BUT…. who did it? I really loved reading this book, after the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t seem to put it down. There are cliffhangers everywhere. New evidence keeps popping up and every time I thought I knew who had killed Simon, more clues came out suggesting another person. Every character has a secret to hide, and an interesting backstory. At the end there was such a plot twist that I was left with my jaw hanging open, I could never have guessed how the murder case unravels. I recommend this to people who love murder mystery!! - Camille P, 8PUN

FRIDAY MATHS PUZZLE Our learning focus for tutor time on Fridays this term is mathematics, with the maths department setting some thought provoking brain teasers each week for pupils to grapple with. Many maths puzzles enhance logical reasoning. When playing maths puzzles, children need to follow a set of specific rules or steps, to come up with the correct answer. This process helps children to organise their thoughts. Please have a go at this week’s problem, talk to your child about how they approached it and what the solutions were. We hope you enjoy these at home as much as the students have enjoyed them with their form!

First and joint second place
First place
Congratulations to the two U13 Cricket teams who took part in the Richmond Schools Sports Partnership cricket tournament on Monday afternoon. We entered as Waldegrave Wolves and Waldegrave Warriors and faced opposition from Twickenham School, Richmond Upon Thames School and St Richard Reynolds Catholic College. The Waldegrave Warriors played exceptionally well to win all of their games to become Richmond School’s champions. Waldegrave Wolves won their opening two matches against Twickenham and RTS, but then lost to SRRC and against the Warriors. The Wolves finished in joint 2nd place overall. Well done for a great performance by both teams and good luck to the Waldegrave Warriors who have qualified for the next round of this competition. Our U15 team also won the Richmond Schools Sports Partnership cricket tournament and will now progress to the Middlesex Round of the competition!
Great efforts this week from all our players - keep up the hard work!
