‘‘Friendly fines’’ help out community
The recent upgrade to Cornwall’s Wastewater Treatment Plant has ended up benefitting the community in more ways than one. Officials who worked on the project raised funds for the Agapè Centre through a ‘friend- ly fine’ system for those who were late for project meetings. Those friendly fines, to- gether with other contributions fromcompa- nies who worked on the project, amounted to nearly $2,790. “The work the Agapè Centre does is both inspiring and empowering,” said Morris McCormick, division manager of Environ- mental Services for Cornwall. “We hope the donation will help the Agapè Centre con- tinue the fight against hunger in the commu- nity.” Other companies that contributed to the fundraiser include Alfa Laval Inc., CH2M HILL Canada, Hollen Controls Ltd., Selectra Inc., St. Lawrence Testing & Inspection Co. and VeoliaWater Solutions & Technologies. Lamarche et son coanimateur Jean- Marcel LeMoeligou se rencontrent dans un des studios de l’édifice de COGECO et travaillent ensemble, avec acharnement, pour produire des émissions d’une durée de 30 minutes. Le duo sensationnel a déjà réalisé plusieurs segments. Mais d’où vient l’idée d’entreprendre un tel projet? « L’idée amijoté entre Robert Per- ron et moi-même, a expliquéM. Lamarche. » À partir de là, l’équipe a contacté Danielle Duplantie, présidente sortante de l’ACFO de SDG. « Elle nous a vraiment aidés », a souligné M. Lamarche. Mais bien que les caméras soient tour- nées vers les deux hommes souriants, ceux- ci montrent du doigt les membres de leur équipe. « Nous avons une très bonne équipe derrière nous, a expliqué M. Silence en studio, on tourne Franco-Hebdo! grade to the Wastewater Treatment Plant represented the single largest capital project ever for the City of Cornwall. TheWastewater Treatment Plant now provides a higher level of wastewater disinfection through the use of ultraviolet technology and advanced sludge
thickening, filtering and screening process- es. Plant upgrades have also increased the facility’s treatment capacity.
En bref / Briefs City’s general manager of Planning set to retire
Stephen Alexander, general manager of Planning, Parks and Recreation, will be retiring on Friday, June 12, after a career with the City that span- ned 35 years. “Stephen has been an extremely dedicated employee for the City of Cornwall and he has had a positive impact on our community through his work with the City and his involvement with various community groups and organiza- tions,” said CAO Norm Levac. Alexander first joi- ned the City of Cornwall in September 1979 as a planner, and his work in the Planning Department would remain a constant throughout his career. Over time, he would become involved in a number of other areas as well. These included Parks and Recreation, Building and By-law Enforcement and, for a period of time, Social Housing. – Fran- cis Racine Lemay extension study underway The City of Cornwall has initiated a Class Envi- ronmental Assessment (EA) for improvements and extension of Lemay Street from Pitt Street to McConnell Avenue. The study will be carried out in accordance with the requirements for a Schedule ‘C’ project under the Municipal Class Environmen- tal Assessment document. As part of the Lemay Street EA, a study to redevelop the Municipal Works Yard on Lemay Street will be carried out. The purpose of the study is to conduct a detailed evaluation of future transportation demand for the east-west direction of travel in the area of Lemay Street. The study will assess current network deficiencies and will develop a recom- mended plan to address capacity, operational and safety issues while minimizing environmental impacts. The study is expected to be completed by the fall of 2015. – Francis Racine
Les coanimateurs Michel Lamarche et Jean-Michel LeMoeligou s’en donnent à cœur joie dans le studio de TV Cogeco. Aidés d’une équipe du tonnerre, les deux hommes discutent d’événements et d’organismes qui ont un impact sur la communauté francophone de Cornwall.
Gabriel Rivière-Reid, réalisateur de l’émission, exerce le rôle de caméraman et s’occupe aussi du montage de l’émission. « Pour une émission de trente minutes, ça prend au moins une heure de montage, a indiqué l’homme en souriant. » Selon les coanimateurs, TV Cogeco a été très enthousiasmé par l’idée de créer une telle émission.
« Leur mandat est de promouvoir leur communauté, a ajoutéM. LeMoeligou. C’est pourquoi ils étaient tous contents lorsqu’on les a approchés pour créer l’émission. » Les émissions sont présentées sur les ondes communautaires de TV Cogeco, tous les mardis à 20 heures et sont rediffusées les jeudis à 21h30.
