Interlochen Center for the Arts 2025 Annual Report

Camp and Academy Parents Move Fast to Act for Art

ANNUAL FUND BY THE NUMBERS

Film and new media student Ben Poulin (IAC 24, IAA 24-25) was so inspired by his impactful experiences at Camp in 2024 that he enrolled in Academy. As a second-year junior, Ben is set to graduate in 2027. Ben’s parents, Caty and Robert, were so impressed with Ben’s education that they chose to support Interlochen in multiple ways. During Act for Art 2025, Caty and Robert volunteered and made a major gift, including a challenge pledge that incentivized others to give.

“Interlochen has been transformational for Ben. Its world-class arts education prepares him for college and a career in his chosen field. Being in an academic environment with other creative problem-solvers has shown him that a non-traditional approach can produce superior results.” — Caty and Robert Poulin The Poulins also made a gift to support touring and travel opportunities and special student-focused initiatives within the Film & New Media Division. By supporting the Annual Fund and making an additional gift to support educational programming, the Poulins expand their impact on Camp and Academy students, empowering them with new ways of striving for creative excellence.

This year, 459 Camp and Academy parents, family, alumni, and friends collectively gave $336,703 in three days—a record-breaking effort! Many of these gifts came from donors inspired by other donors’ challenge- match pledges—gifts whose full amounts “unlock” only when other supporters give. The Interlochen Annual Fund proves the potential of many supporters coming together to uplift the arts and each other: every donor and every gift matter.

The Annual Fund connects our young artists to the community of art-lovers, friends, and family who are eager to support them. Annual Fund gifts support financial aid, visiting artists, touring and travel opportunities, capital improvements, and faculty—all of which benefit Interlochen and our students. The Annual Fund is a philanthropic gathering place, in which donors of all capacities make gifts at all levels. The strength of this community is especially shown through Act for Art, Interlochen’s annual giving days.

Coggin Heeringa: All in for Interlochen

Like generations of young artists, Coggin Heeringa (IAC/NMC St 67-69, 71-72, IAC/NMC Fac 73-19, 21-25) found her life’s calling at Interlochen. In 1969, her third summer as a Camp counselor, she discovered her true passion and eventual career path: environmental science. She has returned to Camp to teach every summer, save two, from 1967 to 2025, introducing students to the natural world at Interlochen’s Hastings Nature Museum. She’s also a long-time host of the weekly radio series Outdoors on Interlochen Public Radio—and a stalwart donor. For years, she’s donated half of her Camp salary back to the Annual Fund and IPR.
