Infection Control Safely remove all PPE without contamination to skin, clothing, or mucous membranes before exiting the patient room except a respirator, which is removed after leaving the patient room and closing the door. Perform hand hygiene. When transporting isolation patients apply a clean blanket and, if appropriate, a surgical mask to the patient prior to leaving the room. Disinfect patient equipment and handles, and remove your own PPE at the door. Keep gloves and mask on hand in the event of a likely contamination or emergency.
