King's Business - 1953-03

in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost . . . and, lo, I am with you alway . . .” Soon after this, the Lord Jesus re turned to His Father in Heaven. His work upon the earth was finished; He left the work of preaching the gospel to those who loved Him and wanted to serve Him. He not only said, “ Go,” He also said “ Lo, I am with you.” The Sav iour never asks us to do anything with out giving us the strength and the wis dom to do that thing. Many boys and girls think that these words of Jesus are meant only for those who go to foreign lands to serve Him. When He said Go, He included our family, our neighbors, our playmates first. If we faithfully tell these of our Saviour, perhaps some day He will ask us to carry the gospel to another land for Him. April 12, 1953 PAUL BECOMES A CHRISTIAN Acts 22:3-16 Pointers on the Lesson We begin this week a series of lessons dealing with the life and letters of the Apostle Paul. The first five lessons will sketch Paul’s life on the basis of the account in the book of Acts and bio graphical references in the Epistles. The remaining seven lessons will deal with some of the major themes of six of Paul’s Epistles: First and Second Thessaloni- ans, First and Second Corinthians, Gala tians, and Philippians. The present les son will consider the experience of Paul’s famous conversion. In it we will be brought face to face with the true mean ing of conversion even as it operates today. Preceding Factors vv. 3-5 These verses present a picture of the man Saul before his conversion. The place of his birth is given as Tarsus, “a citizen of no mean city” (Acts 21: 39). This city was one of the intellec tual centers of that day. This doubtless afforded the young Saul many opportuni ties in his mental development. We arq also told that in his young days he had been sent to Jerusalem to sit at the feet of the noted rabbi, Gamaliel. Anyone who had sat under this great teacher was accorded some distinct prestige by that* very fact. The reputation of Gamaliel is recognized by the Jews until this day. Moreover, we are informed that Paul was zealous toward God. This zeal was manifested at the time of his conversion in that he was even then in the business of persecuting those of this way (v. 5). Two things ought to be stressed at this point: (1) It is possible to be zealous for wrong things as was Paul, and (2) Paul spoke of Christianity as thi 8 way. Christianity is the way to God, to heaven, out of sin and into a life worth-while. Do your scholars know this way? Have they entered into it?

Helps For the Children Into All the World Matt. 28:5, 6, 8, 16-20

Memory Selection: “ And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations . . .” (Matt. 28:18, 19). Jesus was dead! To His disciples there was no more hope nor joy, for they had forgotten their Saviour’s promise to arise from the dead the third day. Early in the morning upon the first day of the week (Sunday), some women who loved the Lord Jesus came to the tomb where His body had been placed to anoint His body with spices and perfumes. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb and an angel sitting upon it. When the angel saw how frightened the women were, he said, “ Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek, Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” The angel invited the women to see the place where the body of their Lord had been placed. The body was gone! At the angel’s command, the wom en ran quickly to tell the disciples the wonderful news. Their Lord had risen even as He had promised! Several weeks later the resurrected Saviour was talking with His eleven disciples (Judas had killed himself after he had betrayed God’s Son). The Lord Jesus said, “ All power is given unto me
