through the process again and again. Felicity nodded. She wasn’t afraid of change, but she was afraid of making an irreversible signing the wrong form. They both understood that technology was mistake, missing a deadline, or digitally meant to improve things, and, in many ways, it had. But for them, it wasn’t about resisting change. It was about how that change was introduced. They were always told that the new time and attendance system was “simple,” but it didn’t feel that way. It made them feel inadequate, like they were the problem. They weren’t resisting change. They just missed feeling part of it. Felicity and Carl didn’t grow up with tech. They learned how to do things manually, and only started using technology after years of doing it the old way. For them, that way was clearer, slower maybe, but familiar.
The warehouse used to buzz with activity, forklifts swooshing back and forth, foremen yelling out instructions, and shop floor banter filling the air. Felicity and Carl were the last of the “old crew” still working there. Some of their friends had retired, machines had replaced others, and a few just moved on.
