Diary of an HR Manager

8.22 a.m. My first day as an indie! Sitting in my home office with a cup of Yorkshire Tea (stirred, not shaken!) I studied the first two briefs that had been sent over from Mahira in Tanya’s sales and marketing team: one was a straightforward HR system selection for a privately held service company with 2,000 employees, and the other

was a system review for a higher education establishment. This latter would be more complex as the contract with the current provider was up in four months, and the client wanted to know if it was best to renew, or to float it out for tender. Looking at the current provider, I could appreciate their dilemma. Things had

changed significantly since they signed up six years ago, and the user experience had become much more important. The payroll didn’t offer quite the right amount of flexibility needed to manage the benefits. In any event, it would be time to look at the market again. I had the two discovery calls scheduled for later
