5.44 p.m. I finished writing up my notes from the two calls and updated my diary. Another client brief had arrived during the afternoon from Mahira, and I made reminders to get train tickets the next day: up North for the University on the following Monday and Bristol for the company on the Thursday. I could see that I was going to rack up a few miles in this role! I needed to speak to a number of people at both locations to get an all- round impression of what was happening, what was NOT happening, and what was required to happen. A five-thousand-word brief is good, but empirical evidence and commentary from users and internal ‘clients’ were vital. Additionally, at the University, at least three of the Deans wanted to speak to me about the upcoming project. Their backing was vital for the sponsorship aspect.

I fired over the summaries from my Note Taker to Peter and Tanya as we had agreed, as this would build into a daily overview of what we were all involved in. I’m always a little wary about these agents; Yes, they summarise neatly, but there’ve been times when I look at the summaries and the nuances of what had been said were either missing or played down. Today was every bit as I had expected it to be; I was confident we’d get confirmed for both pieces of work, and that was an encouraging start! In my personal mail, I found a lunch invitation for this coming Friday, which I had to turn down as there was an AI in HR webinar from New York I didn’t want to miss. Time management is key when you’re managing your own workload, and I could already see how that might be a challenge. October…time to think about the Christmas holiday arrangements, if I dare!

today, so took time to read the system selection requirements for the first one, and then the investigation parameters for the HE client, making notes as I went. The Friday evening Farewell bash had gone out on a high note – the CEO really gave a lovely speech of thanks to all who had worked at the Company over the years. It was her at her very best, and everyone applauded. After, I had a brief chat with her, and she told me to stay in touch. Saying goodbye to my team was hard; all our eyes were pretty watery. They were good people and nearly the whole bunch had got fixed up already. Sarah, our Head of Payroll, came over and we had a drink towards the end. She had a couple of offers in the bag, no surprise to me, she was a real talent. I reminded her that if she ever needed help on sourcing a new payroll, I was only a WhatsApp message away!
