BEGINNING / INTERMEDIATE DARKROOM

Students ages 10-15 learn the basics of how cameras work and "rules" of photography. We also explore fun tricks and hacks as well as how to incorporate the elements of art and science into their photography. Home cameras are welcome but all gear and printing is provided. Students will leave each class with at least one printed image from the day! Code: PHO 05 Instructor: Brook Hewitt Location: Painting & Drawing Studio 1 PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS (AGES 10-15) Maximum: 8 Fee: $168.00 Day/Time: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Dates: November 9 and 10 (2 Day workshop) Supply List: 35mm or medium format film camera, 1-2 rolls of unexposed b&w film, variable grade (multicontrast) b&w photographic paper. FILM PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO SERIES: STILL-LIFE A 2-day workshop on shooting b&w film in a controlled indoor setting. Topics covered will include lighting, exposure, composition and printing. Day 1: Participants will be guided in shooting film under various indoor lighting conditions working with still life subject matter and developing film. Day 2: participants will have the opportunity to develop additional rolls of film and create and review prints from the previous day’s shoot. Chemistry and equipment provided. EXPERIMENTAL DARKROOM SERIES: COFFEE BASED FILM AND PAPER DEVELOPER Yes, coffee, the tasty beverage we all know and love. In this 2-day Workshop, participants will explore making and using caffenol, a developer made from coffee and other simple household ingredients. Chemistry and equipment provided. Day 1: Students will be guided in the process of creating their developer from scratch, shooting and developing 1 - 2 rolls of black & white film. Day 2: Students will take the next step and create silver gelatin prints using caffenol as a paper developer. Prerequisite: Beginning/Intermediate Darkroom Photography or by permission of the instructor. Maximum: 8 Fee: $168.00 Day/Time: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Dates: September 28-29 (2 Day workshop) Supply List: 35mm or medium format film camera, 1 - 2 rolls of unexposed b&w film, variable grade (multicontrast) resin coated(RC) black & white photographic paper.
