BEGINNER LEVEL 1 - WHEEL Pottery & Ceramics BEGINNER LEVEL 2 - WHEEL

INTERMEDIATE WHEEL

This is the perfect entry level class for beginning wheel students. It will cover the basic techniques of throwing, glazing, and firing. Students will also learn the important safety guidelines and procedures of the ceramics studio. Projects on the wheel will focus on small forms (cups, bowls, saucers). The Level 2 wheel classes will continue the progress and practice of throwing. Projects will focus on taller pots and refining ceramic forms that were learned in Level 1 class. Intermediate Level wheel classes will explore advanced forms or a series of work. Examples of projects may include pottery sets (mugs, tea bowls, etc), large vases and bottles, and other altered forms. Prerequisite - Beginner Level 2 Wheel. INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 2 - WHEEL

Intermediate wheel classes focus on the process of salt or soda firings. Students will learn about the effects of introducing these sodium compounds into a gas fired kiln, and the many variables that can happen on pottery when it is fired this way. STUDIO PROCEDURES

Internship course for learning to operate a pottery studio. Kiln firing and design, basic glaze formulation, and photographic techniques will be covered. You will work with assistants and attend 5 mandatory lecture sessions. (This course is required prior to application for pottery monitor.) Tuition includes the cost of studio manual. Code: POT 21
