Morrisette Packaging vetted a myriad of project partners and suppliers; it vetted Kevin O’Brien, its new Director of Manufacturing, and perhaps no entity was more vetted than Koenig & Bauer and its new machinery. “The Koenig & Bauer|Celmacch brand is an extreme- ly impactful name around the world, and we quickly dis- covered their machines were the best in the industry, so it made perfect sense that they would vet us, too. We were very pleased with that,” says John Morrisette. “For them to achieve their goals in the North American market, it was just as important for them to be sure we were the right buyers of their technology. The right first impression can be everything in this space, and Koenig & Bauer needed a partner they felt the most confident in to achieve that. Future Plans And AICC If things continue to trend the way Morrisette Packag- ing projects, it would make sense to invest in similar tech- nology in the future, whether to increase capacity or ex- pand its product offerings. “We have the ability to expand this building significantly if we wanted to,” says John Morrisette. “We can financially make investments without putting the company in a pre- carious spot thanks to the stewardship of previous leader- ship, including my dad, my grandad, and others.” Robbie Workman, Executive Director of Packaging Design, said that joining AICC would go miles in helping introduce Morrisette Packaging to independent box plant owners and suppliers to the industry. “We realized the importance of joining AICC and we’re bringing our leadership team to Chicago to meet every- one, see what being a member is really all about and learn from peers we look up to,” he says. “With eight locations, 300 employees, including 65 sales reps, we’re bigger than the average AICC member, but we’re certainly not an integrated, we’re an independent. What’s already been rewarding is the supplier part- nerships we’re developing. As we’ve gotten the word out about what we’re doing, the response has been over- whelmingly positive. Other members are asking, ‘How can we support you? How can we help? How can we become your trade partner?’ That was both unexpected and en- couraging.” Adds Kris Vermilion, Morrisette Packaging’s Director of Marketing, “Becoming vertically integrated will allow us to achieve better quality control and become more versatile. However, our people are the real key to our success, and we are confident that as we continue to invest in them and the resources they need, they will continue to elevate who we are as a company.” Morrisette Packaging seems poised to take the North American printed corrugated market to the next level. Only time will tell if their enthusiasm and experience will help them successfully navigate this new venture. You can follow their journey and see what’s new at morrisette.com.
