What's New for 2025

WHAT IF...we always grew what we've always grown? That would make our plant buyer happy but would also be pretty boring! Plant breeders are continually bringing new genetics to the market. We like to bring these new genes to you after we've tried them.

Smooth Mountain Mint

Smooth Mountain Mint is a tough and adaptable perennial native to meadows and open woodlands across much of the eastern United States west to Texas. It is not a true mint ( Mentha spp.) but belongs to the same family and has similarly scented leaves. A must-have for pollinator gardens, heads of tiny white to light pink blooms attract butterflies, wasps, and bees from July to September. The inconspicuous flowers are upstaged by surrounding silver bracts, which give the illusion of frost in summer and persist for months. It has no serious disease issues and is unpalatable to deer and rabbits.

September. It has large fragrant (minty) leaves that end just below the flower spikes. Plant this beauty where you can touch it and enjoy the scent! It is an excellent nectar plant, attracts butterflies, is drought tolerant, makes a nice cut flower, and is good rain garden plant.

Prairie Pussytoes

Antennaria neglecta , or Prairie Pussytoes, is an herbaceous perennial plant in the daisy family with soft wooly hairs all over the leaves. It can reach a height of 12” but is typically 6” or less. A rosette of basal leaves form a mat and can be used as a ground cover in small spaces or rock gardens. Flowers are produced on a short stalk in the spring and resemble compact tufts of white hair. Blooming occurs from mid to late spring. Prairie, or Field, Pussytoes spread by means of horizontal stolons that develop small replicas of the mother plant. These root in the ground and form dense colonies.

Full Sun Perennial

Showy Tick Trefoil

Showiest of the Tick Trefoils, Desmodium canadense is covered with bright purple pea-like flowers in July. A deep taproot makes this plant incredibly drought resistant. Because it is a member of the legume family, it improves the soil by adding nitrogen, and the seeds are used by a variety of birds and other wildlife. Desmodium loves clay and will grow in any moderately rich well-drained or slightly damp soil, and spreads by means of "stick- tight" seeds. The nectar, pollen, seeds and foliage of this species appeal to a number of insects, birds and mammals.

Cookies and Cream

Hardy Hibiscus

PPAF

Full Sun Perennial

A night and day combination of matte black foliage and pure white flowers. 'Cookies and Cream' emerges in late spring already showing its dark foliage; the perfect backdrop to early season perennials. Like other dark-leaved Hardy Hibiscus, full sun is necessary to bring out the deepest foliage color. Beginning in midsummer slightly cupped 6-7" bright white flowers will appear. The typical red eye of Hardy Hibiscus is absent, so the flowers appear solid white.

Bottle Rocket Ragwort

PP24486

Part Shade Perennial

Throughout the years, we have been impressed by the compact habit and excellent garden performance of this sport of 'Little Rocket’. Unlike older Ligularia, this one is a perfectly proportioned plant with its mustard yellow flowers held on chocolate stems just at the top of the dense clump of foliage, so no naked stems are showing. The flowers are held like a bouquet in the center of the clump, and there are more flowering stems per plant than its parent. Comparing mature specimens, ‘Bottle Rocket’ is about 6” shorter than its parent in full bloom.

Leading Lady Pink Bee-balm

Curtain Call Deep Rose

Anemone

PP30520

Part Shade Perennial

Fall blooming Anemone is one of the final performers in the garden for the growing season. Beginning in late summer, this perennial produces dark rose-pink flowers that are positioned right above a small mound of green foliage. The flowers are fuller than single, producing a double row of petals. Its shorter stature lends itself well to containers, both as monoculture and in combination with other perennials. It spreads by underground rhizomes. This is a perfect companion to other fall interest varieties, such as Coneflowers, Ornamental Grasses, and Stonecrop.

Little Vision in Pink Astilbe

PP21886

Part Shade Perennial
