This week has been an exciting and busy one here at the center! We were thrilled to welcome back our Tap Dance and Boogie Chair classes after their summer break and both returned with full classes ready to go. Our pickleball courts have been packed daily, with dozens of players coming out each morning and evening to join in the fun. It’s been incredible to see such a strong and growing community around the sport. On Thursday night, our volleyball program had an amazing turnout, filling the gym with energy, teamwork, and plenty of exciting matches. The atmosphere was electric, and we’re so proud to see this program continue to thrive! We can’t wait to keep this momentum going with more great programs and activities in the weeks ahead. JM Berlin Rotary Skate Park Last week at the J.M.B Rotary Skatepark we had a whopping 56 skateboarders and 18 BMXers enjoy the park!

This week was full of activity and strong participation across our programs. Pickleball continued to be a community favorite, with 111 players hitting the courts throughout the week. Our newest class, Stride & Stretch, is quickly becoming a standout, attracting an impressive 57 participants. It’s designed for all fitness levels and has already received great feedback from those looking for a fun, effective way to stay active. In addition, the Community Center hosted a special event presented by MDVIP featuring Dr. Fignar, who led an informative session on Gut Health. Coastal This week Coastal staff officially wrapped up the 2025 Shorebird/Sea Bird nesting season. Charlotte County saw some of the best nesting it’s had in years with a total of 3 American Oystercatcher chicks fledging, 71 Black Skimmer chicks fledging, 118 Least Tern chicks fledging, and 3 Wilson’s Plover chicks fledging across all nesting sites on all of our beaches. Staff has already removed all shorebird/seabird nesting sites in preparation for hurricane season, and to prevent entanglement hazards for our nesting sea turtles. Our new coastal environmental specialist, Zach, made his first seabird rescue! Deputy Primmel called coastal staff with an injured bird in hand, so Zach immediately ran to pick up the juvenile Sandwich Tern, and transport it to the Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida where it will be rehabbed and released. Coastal staff also continues to GPS sea turtle nests on all beaches, with a total of 1,476 sea turtle nests- 1,272 Loggerhead nests and 204 Green nests. Staff also worked to put up all of the art work from the summer sea turtle artwork competition in the Centennial Rec Center so residents can come vote on their favorite artwork to help with new educational outreach materials for sea turtles.

At Dog Tales this week we had some very happy new friends that got to spend some time enjoying great reads and some good boy pets. As always, our quilters never cease to amaze in their ability to find the best details in a fabric. We can't wait to see how their next projects turn out!
