DARPA X-planes Paved the Way for the F-47 DEFENSE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY NEWS Under research and development contracts with the De- fense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Boeing and Lockheed Martin designed two X-planes as risk reduction for the Next Generation Air Dominance Platform. These air- craft first flew in 2019 and 2022, logging several hundred hours each. (Read more)

Earlier in March, President Donald J. Trump told Congress and Americans that the United States would pursue a Golden Dome, similar to Israel’s Iron Dome air defense sys- tem, designed to protect against inbound missile attacks. The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment is working with partner agencies, including the Missile Defense Agency and the military services, to make that happen, said Steven J. Morani, currently perform- ing the duties of under secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, on March 18 at the McAleese Defense Programs Conference in Arlington, Va. (Read more)
Trump, Hegseth Announce Air Force’s Next Generation Fighter Platform DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEWS Matthew Olay
During a press conference at the White House on March 21, President Donald J. Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the Air Force would proceed with the production of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter jet platform. Intended to eventually replace the Air Force’s fleet of F-22 Raptors, the NGAD platform is a network-connected family of systems—including a stealth fighter jet component, drone technology, and others—that simultaneously interact to ensure air superiority.
