How Outdoor Play Builds Resilient Kids Stronger, Braver, Happier
2025 MAY
Marah and I were working on our land in
resilience in children and reduces stress. But children in past generations benefited from more unfettered play outdoors than most kids have now. Marah and I were talking about how I feel less stressed and more alive when I’m in nature. It seems to me that many of our mental health problems as a society are related to the fact that people are working on technological gadgets all day long. They spend long hours on apps that are programmed to engage their minds rather than getting outside in nature. Working on a project outside is so much more invigorating. If Bennett watches TV, he is fine for a little while, but after a longer period of time, he gets a little crazy. Getting him outside invariably solves the problem. I grew up in the country, working outside on our land and growing up in my parents’ business. We had 8 acres, and my whole childhood was spent working in the yard. My dad always had a garden, so I constantly pulled weeds and tended the plants. Also, I have been working in the business so long that I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t. I started helping with filing and taking out the trash in my parents’ practice when I was really little. When my dad started this business, I was packing orders, too. Wherever I went later in the real world, as a teenager and young adult, I didn’t have to work at full capacity to outdo most people around me. We have an area on our land in the mountains where we can make a garden. Personally, I had my fill of gardening as a child. If the decision were left up to me, I would probably have a concrete yard. But Marah likes gardening, and Bennett loves the garden too. I know she’ll teach him the valuable skills I learned as a kid. Watching Bennett play and work alongside Marah in that beautiful space makes me grateful. As May begins in your world, I hope you and your loved ones can enjoy some restorative time in nature, too!
the mountains on a recent weekend, clearing leaves and thinning the underbrush along the banks of our little creek when Bennett made an announcement. He had been having fun just running around, whacking at the leaves with a stick, when he jumped on his little Zero Turn toy riding lawnmower and declared, “I’m going to go cut the grass!” And away he went.
Bennett’s lawnmower doesn’t really cut grass, but he thinks it does, and he loves riding around on it. Watching him drive away, determined, purposeful, and having fun outdoors, I felt a lot of gratitude. In recognition of May 6 as National Play Outside Day, I feel fortunate that at age 4, our son can benefit from playing in nature, and Marah and I can enjoy watching him. Playing and working in nature benefits people’s mental health and well-being. Researchers say exposure to nature encourages kids to think for themselves, explore new ways to grow, and discover interesting new places and things. Studies show that outdoor time instills greater self-esteem, confidence, and

LIVE LONGER, LIVE SMARTER BIOHACK YOUR WAY TO A HEALTHIER FUTURE We all want to live long, healthy lives, but achieving this feat is not as easy as speaking it into existence. It requires intentional actions to extend a lifespan and keep illness and chronic conditions at bay. While diet and exercise play a vital role in our health, a new emerging trend is producing promising results. Biohacking utilizes biology, technology, and self-experimentation to optimize our bodies and minds.
Flip- Step Into S
Summer often poses a dilemma for people who wear orthotics or suffer from flat feet or knee pain. While others toss off their shoes and don cheap plastic flip-flops for summer fun and travel, these patients cannot tolerate the pronation and joint pain that conventional flip-flops often cause. Fortunately, chiropractors can offer these patients a safe, biomechanically sound footwear option that compares well on style, color, and innovative materials: Archies Arch Support Flip Flops. Worn by professional athletes, podiatrists, and chiropractors and embraced as style-setters on social media, Archies are stocked by thousands of chiropractors and other clinicians nationwide.
One unique aspect of biohacking is personalization. We all have different bodies, so we all need a customized program to maximize our health. To try biohacking, you must first reflect on your health and identify an area you want to improve. You then figure out how to fix that problem area by adjusting your diet, lifestyle, or exercise routine. Then, test your hypothesis, recording detailed results from your efforts. Here are three forms of biohacking you can try using to boost your brain and body. GET YOUR BLOOD TESTED. Biohacking is all about making data-driven decisions about your health, but how can you make changes without knowing where your health stands? Blood tests provide insight into what you need to fix and allow you to track your progress to ensure you’re making significant improvements.
This fashionable, supportive footwear always sells well in the spring and summer, riding a rising tide of consumer demand. The $61 billion market for footwear in North America is projected to grow at a torrid annual rate of 5.5% a year through 2030, with demand for casual styles from health-conscious consumers helping set the pace, according to GrandView Research. Archies differ from ordinary flip-flops in several important ways. They solve the foot, joint, and posture problems caused by flat, loose-fitting, mass-market footwear, including foot pronation, the rolling inward of the leg and thigh, and strain on knee and hip joints. Also, when the toes curl down to keep conventional flip-flops from falling off, the arch fails to activate normally, and the foot becomes tired, achy, and vulnerable to injury.
EXPERIMENT WITH EXTREME TEMPERATURES. Spending time in a sauna is a great way to increase relaxation, improve heart
health, reduce inflammation, and lower cholesterol. On the other hand, taking a cold shower or an ice bath can improve circulation, enhance your
immune system, reduce inflammation, and more.
ADD BRAIN GAMES TO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE. Your mind is just as important as your body for a long and healthy life. Playing brain games like
sudoku, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble can help keep your mind sharp and focus fresh. Phone apps have made it easier than ever to enjoy new brain games! Though there’s a lot of trial and error involved, once you find what works for your body, you’ll never look back.
-Flop Season Is Here Summer With Healthful Archies Footwear
An Australian physical therapist designed Archies as a better alternative to protect his patients from the hazards of wearing conventional flip-flops. He also wanted Archies to look enough like their fashionable competitors to be stylish in the eyes of his patients. Archies are made of closed-cell foam material with a patented footbed that conforms to the shape of the wearer’s foot, cradling and supporting the arches. Wearing them requires less energy because the tighter strap holds them firmly to the foot. They also provide the same support as a typical orthotic, and their one-piece design prevents the strap from breaking away from the footbed, reducing the risk of sprained ankles. The overall effect is a more biomechanically correct posture, reducing hip and knee pain and preventing or reducing pain from plantar fasciitis. Many of our chiro partners have purchased and worn Archies themselves. Customers — from receptionists to podiatrists — have been delighted by how Archies enable them to be on their feet comfortably for hours. One California clinic staffer told us that Archies footwear sells itself. She stocks a large assortment of Archies on a big waiting-room display rack in a range of sizes and styles to encourage sales on the spot.
Archies is introducing new colors, including lilac flip-flops and navy blue and olive slides. May through July is the best time to stock
up on this popular footwear to ensure
supplies last throughout the beach-going season.
Believing in the products you offer patients can be one of
the most effective revenue- enhancing strategies you can employ. We hope you will take advantage of our free offer this month to try some Archies flip-flops yourself and stock them for your patients!

Mother’s Day Breakfast Ideas to Wow Mom 4
TREAT MOM TO A MAGICAL MORNING The Ultimate Mother’s Day Breakfast Plan
PRESENT IT BEAUTIFULLY. You can elevate even a simple breakfast with a few thoughtful additions. Ditch the disposables and use real plates, silverware, and linen napkins. Deliver the breakfast with care on a lovely tray accompanied by a small vase of flowers. Keep everything organized neatly, and include a handwritten card or note to add a heartfelt message to the meal. MAKE IT A TEAM EFFORT. Get the whole family involved — minus Mom, of course! Even young kids can pitch in by spreading butter, arranging fruit, or folding napkins. Older kids can help out more with the actual cooking. To make Mother’s Day morning stress-free for everyone, do prep work the night before. Chop fruit, prepare the coffeemaker, and premix the pancake batter. And don’t forget the cleanup. Working as a team
We should all show appreciation for the moms in our lives year-round, but Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to do something extra special. For many busy moms, a relaxing, stress-free breakfast in bed is the ultimate treat. But Mother’s Day breakfast doesn’t have to be an over-the- top display or super complicated to prepare. A little planning, a few thoughtful details, and helping hands make all the difference. START WITH A MENU SHE’LL LOVE. Mother’s Day breakfast in bed should be simple but meaningful. Breakfast go-tos like pancakes and French toast are delicious and easy to make, and you can add a parfait or fresh fruit and a cup of freshly squeezed juice for a special touch. If she loves eggs and toast, go in that direction. Preparing Mom’s favorite dish or incorporating ingredients that remind her of a family tradition can take the meal to the next level.
to wash dishes and put things away will ensure a dirty kitchen doesn’t ruin Mom’s special day when she gets up. Remember, you don’t have to prepare the perfect meal to make Mother’s Day memorable. It’s all about showing your love and appreciation. The holiday is an opportunity to bring the entire family together to create a special moment for the most important woman in your life.
