High School Equivalency (HSE)/ General Education Development (GED) State of Illinois High School Diploma Program General Information

ICAPS at Oakton The Integrated Career and Academic Preparation System (ICAPS) program at Oakton helps individuals who are getting their GED or participating in Level 4/5 ESL classes to train for a college credential at the same time. Career Training Focus Areas • Information Technology • Commercial Driver’s License • Health Careers • Early Childhood Education Program Highlights • FREE tuition, books, and course materials • Experienced instructors and support personnel to best ensure your success • WiFi hotspots and laptops to utilize while in the program • Career exploration and job search support at the completion of the program Eligibility • Minimum CASAS Goals Reading score of 228 • Proficient in written and spoken English • Other eligibility requirements apply. More Information www.oakton.edu/academics/continuing-education/icaps.php • Students who are not currently enrolled in a regular daytime high school program may obtain a high school diploma by attending evening classes housed at Maine South High School. • Smaller class sizes allow for more individualized instruction. • Classes are held in a hybrid format in-person on Monday and Tuesday and virtually on Wednesday and Thursday. Both in- person and virtual classes are held from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m. Eligibility • Resident of Evanston, Maine, Northfield, or Niles Township. • 16 years of age or older. • Not presently enrolled in a regular daytime high school program. This program offers classes that will improve your reading, writing, science, social studies, and math skills in order to pass one of the approved high school equivalency exams, GED ® or HiSET ® . Upon passing all exams and completing the Constitution requirement, you are awarded a State of Illinois High School Diploma. Eligibility Classes are available free of charge, including books, for students who meet the following requirements: • Resident of Illinois 16 years of age or older. • Ages 16 and 17 must provide a letter of withdrawal/separation from their high school. • All students must complete required pre and post tests. In order to receive a State of Illinois High School Diploma, you must also complete the following Constitution module* by creating an account and following through the lessons: Illinois Constitution at https://ilconstitution.org *Any person who passed the Illinois Constitution Test that was in place prior to July 1, 2022, has met the constitution requirement and does not need to complete this version.
