Y7 Bulletin 12.09.25

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

It has been lovely to see Year 7 settling in so well at the start of their school journey. They had a productive and fun time on their first day, getting to know their form tutor and meeting their form prefects who took them on a tour of the school to refresh memories following the induction day in July. We set each tutor group a fun treas- ure hunt challenge to complete in groups, navigating the school grounds with a map and finding the hidden letters to rearrange into a word they will hear very often throughout their time at Waldegrave - KINDNESS. Pupils are now getting to know their daily routines, using their maps to find their way to each classroom and experiencing new lessons. They have also had the opportunity to meet and make new friends! Well done Year 7 you are all doing very well, the Year 7 team is very impressed. Year 7 have started earning epraise points in lessons and I will share details of their achievements via the bulle- tin over the course of the year. 7FSM are currently at the top of the tutor group leaderboard - well done. Lunchtime and afterschool clubs will be starting from next week and we would like to encourage Year 7 to get involved and maybe try something new. A reminder of the dates for the upcoming Thames Young Mariners trips:

Tuesday 16th September - 7FSM & 7SSN Thursday 18th September - 7EVA & 7PCL Monday 22nd September - 7PRE & 7EHA Wednesday 24th September - 7SRI & 7FBO

A letter has been sent to you with all the required information. I am sure Year 7 are very much looking forward to this exciting day trip and we look forward to hearing about their experiences in the forthcoming bulletins. Later this term the school’s Performing Arts Team will be directing a performance of My Fair Lady. We are looking for donations of black, white or black & white hats/fascinators, in any condition, shape or size, as we will be decorating and modifying these. Please hand in any donations at Reception. Lastly please note school photos are taking place on 17 and 18 September. We would appreciate your support in ensuring pupils are wearing correct uniform. Please see uniform policy here.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Being Miss Nobody by Tasmin Winter Miss Nobody is a book about a girl with selective mutism, who rarely speaks and even then only to her family and her very much trusted neighbour. Rosalind has to deal with being the ‘mute ant’ in her school and has lost all hope of having a social life when she is tasked with being the buddy of a new girl at school. Having to tour Ailisa is a big struggle but this is a turning point, as a great friendship blossoms leading Rosalind to challenge herself further and further with her speech. Little did she know on meeting Ailisa that she would encourage her to speak in an assembly in front of the whole school and reveal in this assembly that she was the author of the ‘blog’ about the rude students in school that accidentally went viral… I really enjoyed this book because it reminds me of how we all struggle with school life but eventually we manage to find the answer to the solution. Read this book if you liked the Lottie Brooke’s Diary series!
