Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center has been buzzing with activity! This past week, 8 creative participants crafted and took home custom Watercolor Floral Scenes. The gymnasium was full of energy, hosting 108 pickleball players and 15 basketball enthusiasts. Our self-guided programs continue to thrive, with 102 patrons utilizing the fitness room, 13 enjoying walking fitness, and 7 joining in for Mahjong. Excitement is also building for the 2025 Senior Games—119 participants are already signed up and ready to compete! Centennial Park Pool This week at Centennial Park Pool we had 83 lap swimmers! and 254 Recreational swimmers! We had a total of 78 patrons participate in water aerobics this past week. Port Charlotte High came in with 26 swimmers, and the swim meet this week hosted 47. Dive had 2.

The Recreation Center had another lively week of activities and events. Stride & Stretch drew 33 participants for a low-impact workout focused on improving flexibility, balance, and mobility. We also proudly hosted the Englewood Health Fair at the Community Center, a successful event where attendees connected with local health resources, picked up wellness tips, and explored services available in the community. Trivia Tuesday brought 4 participants together for a fun, friendly competition filled with laughter and conversation.
The gym has been full of activity! We’ve had great turnouts for pickleball and basketball, Charlotte Prep has been here for volleyball practices and games, and our Tots programs are really taking off. It’s been wonderful seeing so many people enjoying the space!
JM Berlin Rotary Skate Park Last week at the J.M.B Rotary Skatepark we had a 44 skateboarders and 15 BMXers visit the park.
Recreation
South County Regional Park Recreation Center This week, the South County Regional Park Pool welcomed 550 visitors to the pool, with 60 individuals participating in water aerobics for exercise. The South County Regional Park Recreation Center buzzed with activity as 147 pickleball players enjoyed their games in the gym, while 53 basketball enthusiasts engaged in pick-up games during open basketball hours. Additionally, 10 participants joined Heather for her Pilates class, and 8 individuals utilized the fitness center.
Harold Avenue Regional Park Recreation Center Harold Avenue Regional Park had 100 for Drop-in Pickleball, 124 Basketball, 23 Table Tennis and 7 Volleyball. Walking Fitness is holding strong at 12 walking each week. Silver Sneakers had 31 participants and Pilates had 5. Sign-ups for the Basketball league are going strong.
Parks & Natural Resources
Land Management Staff this week conducted multiple exotic invasive treatments. Species treated include cogon grass, lygodium and Brazilian pepper. Area treated is approximately 11 acres. Staff also conducted routine mowing and trail maintenance operations. Additional operations include gopher tortoise surveys conducted at Tippecanoe.
UF/IFAS Extension
Last week, the Master Gardener Volunteer Horticulture Therapy Team hosted a special memory care session. Dolly led an engaging class on herbs, and participants created their own herb planters to take home. It was a meaningful and hands-on experience enjoyed by all!

Punta Gorda Library
Englewood Charlotte Public Library Even though we can’t feel it in the air yet, fall programming has made its way to Englewood Library! Our newest youth program “Jet-Set and Read!” kicked off and our local kiddos can earn a free ticket to the airshow. Memory Café had a blast this past week by planting some new seedlings to care for. Our Magic the Gathering group had a great time facing off against each other in a few rounds of Two Headed Dragon!
Here's the Good News for this week! For banned book week, the Punta Gorda Charlotte Library has put up our annual display. With information from ALA, this display covers the top 10 most challenged books for th year as well as the number of titles banned. It always catches patrons' eye and brings awareness to an important topic. This year patrons are also able to vote weekly on their banned book of choice.

Port Charlotte Public Library
We celebrated Grandparents with a special “Owl Always Love You” Acrylic workshop where everyone painted owl silhouettes set against a beautiful Autumn moon.
Teen volunteers are hard at work on our pumpkin and apple suncatcher craft kits.
At Saturday’s What’s Cooking, the nutrition team from Advent Health came by to educate about 80 participants on
heart health and prepared a few delicious heart healthy dishes for sampling.
People have been voting for their favorite origami bookmarks at an interactive display created by library tech Mikayla. Preschool Prep has begun again for the school year and both our classes are off to a great start. Pictured is the first day excitement from Wednesday’s class.
