As we enjoy the fall season, we are excited to share a sneak peek at our upcoming schedule featuring programs for every viewer. From documentaries about local history, to spooky mysteries that are perfect for October, we’ve got you covered. Among our offerings is “Paradox,” a compelling TPT-produced film exploring the complex history of policing in Minneapolis premiering on October 21. Also debuting is “The Gold,” a magnificently produced mystery from “Masterpiece” that premieres on October 5. Inspired by the true story of Britain’s infamous 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery—the largest of its kind—this crime drama is rich with tension, historical depth and stellar performances. PBS also returns with “Secrets of the Dead” featuring four enthralling new historical mysteries that continue to perplex scholars today: “The Rise & Fall of the Colosseum” on October 8; “Cleopatra’s Last Temple” on October 15; “Cracking the Queen’s Code” on October 22; and “Chasing the Plague” on October 29. I often end my notes with gratitude, and this month will be no different. Your membership empowers us to push through adversity and keep the programs and resources you depend on going strong. Our organization has faced some changes, including slimming down our monthly magazine to maximize your investment, but we are here to stay, thanks to your unwavering generosity. If you are interested in learning about another impactful way to support TPT for generations to come, please take a look at pages 4 and 5, which discuss National Estate Planning Awareness Week. We would be honored to be a part of your legacy.

VISIONARY SOCIETY
Ways to Give
Planned Giving: Joining TPT’s Visionary Society October 20-26 marks National Estate Planning
Visionary Society members Glenn and Patti Flekke
Awareness Week — a perfect time to reflect on your legacy. At TPT, more than 400 members of our Visionary Society have chosen to support trusted public media for generations to come through planned gifts. You can join them in several ways:
Why we chose to Create Our TPT Legacy Visionary Society members Glenn and Patti Flekke share why they’ve included Twin Cities PBS (TPT) in their estate plans through a gift in their will.
What inspired you to make a planned gift, and what does this gift mean to you?
Bequest in will or trust: Name the TPT Foundation as a percentage or specific dollar amount of your estate.
The future of public broadcasting, especially local production, is less certain than ever. We’ve enjoyed TPT since before PBS in the early 1960s, and want to be sure it will survive and thrive in the 21st century. How do you hope your planned gift will make a difference for future generations? TPT produces excellent documentaries, music and public affairs programs like “Broadcast Wars,” “First Avenue: Closer to the Stars,” “Relish” and “Almanac.” These balance out commercial television, and our gift will help extend that balance into future generations. What would you say to someone considering a planned gift? Call the TPT Giving Team for an introduction to TPT’s long- term needs. Then work with your financial planner to create a plan that gives you peace of mind. Anything else you’d like to share? I still remember watching Channel 2’s midnight sign-off in the ’60s and ’70s — the American flag, static, and Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture.” A reminder of TPT’s long history and why it’s worth sustaining.
IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD): Make a tax-free gift today and satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution. Retirement assets: Add the TPT Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or 403(b).
Charitable Gift Annuity: Receive fixed payments for life in exchange for your gift.
Learn more at giftplanning.tpt.org or contact Mike Klinefelter, Planned Giving Officer, at plannedgiving@tpt.org or 651.229.1520.

OCTOBER 2025
Creating Your Legacy Through Retirement Assets
Retirement accounts — such as IRAs, 401(k)s or 403(b)s — are often among the largest assets people own, sometimes even greater than real estate. While these funds are designed to support you during your lifetime, they can also be one of the most powerful ways to leave a legacy for future generations. When retirement assets are passed on to non-spousal heirs, they are taxed as ordinary income and must be liquidated within 10 years. That can dramatically reduce the gift your loved ones receive. But when those same assets are shared with TPT, every dollar is used to enrich lives with trusted journalism, lifelong learning and stories that connect us. Consider Michelle McBride, a retired business executive with $500,000 in her retirement plan. Wanting to leave a lasting impact, Michelle designated 40% of her account to the TPT Foundation. That decision ensured that $200,000 would fully support the mission of public media, without being reduced by income or estate taxes. Making this kind of gift is simple. Complete a Beneficiary Designation Form with your plan administrator, no attorney required! The designation is revocable, meaning you can adjust it at any time, and it passes outside of probate, making administration easier for your loved ones. Beneficiary forms are also available for life insurance, commercial annuities, bank accounts and investment accounts. If you’d like to explore how your retirement assets could support the community you care about, contact Mike Klinefelter, TPT’s Planned Giving Officer, at plannedgiving@tpt.org or 651-229-1520. Because TPT cannot provide legal or financial advice, we encourage you to consult your professional advisors.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) A QCD is a direct transfer from your IRA to a qualified charity.
• Available for donors age 70½+ • Limit: $108,000 in 2025
• Counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (age 73+) • Not reported as income and no tax deduction is received • Not eligible for TPT member premiums
