Pythium Root Dysfunction Pythium root dysfunction is active slightly earlier in spring than Pythium root rot, when 2” soil temperatures reach 55ºF for three consecutive days. Applications for Pythium root dysfunction should be initiated in spring when average soil temperature at a 2” depth taken at 11 am is 55°F for three consecutive days. In areas with chronic Pythium root dysfunction consider an application in fall when the average soil temperatures consistently drop below 65°F. These applications should be watered-in with 0.125” of irrigation.
