buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom” (Luke 16:22,23). “ Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: Then a great ransom cannot deliver thee” (Job 36:18). “ And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this [death] the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Baptismal Regeneration Mormonism teaches baptismal regen eration : “ Objective: to show that baptism is a necessary requirement for entrance into the kingdom of heaven” (Combination Reference, prepared by Eldin Ricks, p. 10; printed in 19UU). The Bible teaches that baptism is not essential to salvation and that it is only the precious blood of Christ that can wash away our sins. “ To him [Christ] give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever be- Iieveth in -him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43). “Without shed ding of blood is no remission” (Heb. 9:22). “ The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1 :7 ).. “ Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Rev. 1:5). No Hell or Future Punishment Mormonism teaches that there is no hell and denies the doctrine of eternal punishment for those that die without Christ: “ Joseph Smith denounced the doc trine of the burning hell” (The Divine Mission of Joseph Smith, by John A. Widtsoe, p. 15). “Under such a doctrine (universal salvation), hell vanishes, and its equivalent will be the genuine sor row of being, because of evil works, in a lower glory than was possible of at tainment” (Universal Salvation, by John A. Widtsoe, p. h). “ The false doctrine that the punishment to be visited upon erring souls is endless, that every sen tence for sin is of interminable dura tion, must be regarded as one of the most pernicious results of misappre hension of Scripture. It is but a dogma of unauthorized and erring sectaries, at once unscriptural, unreasonable, and re volting to one who loves mercy and hon ors justice” (Articles of Faith, by Tal- mage, 19HI ed., p. 61). The Bible teaches that those that die without Christ will go into hell and the lake of fire forever and forever: “ The wicked shall be turned into hell” (Psa. 9:17). “ And these [the unsaved] shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous [the saved] into life eternal” (Matt. 25:46). “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44). “ And whoso ever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire,” “ which is the second death” (Rev. 20:15; 21:8). To get answers to our prayers we must have faith, but it is impossible for us to possess saving faith without sacrificial obedience. Faith and obedience go hand in hand, as do prayer and praise. Faith sees IN THE DARK how to walk in the light.

The' most fervent revivalism w ill wear itself out in mere smoke if it be not maintained by the fuel of teach ing. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon
