Prepare special invitations for the July 4 meeting. Write on them the time, place and topic, and caption it with the words, “ Things Will Be Popping At Young People’s Meeting Sunday Night.” Roll these in red paper to resemble firecrackers. Idea 2 If you have an “ Old Timer” in your congregation, invite him to your July 11 meeting and have him tell (better limit his time) of early experiences. “How Chris tianity Helped in Conquering the Frontier” might be his topic. Idea 3 In preparation for the discussion on July 18, take a Scofield Bible and run through the chain ref erences on “ Forgiveness” begin ning with Leviticus 4:20. Young Christians will need some assist ance in this from sponsor or pas tor. Idea 4 Does your group have a Christian Service project? “He [JESUS] went about doing good.” We, too, should be busy in His service. A plan to do something for under privileged children will bring much joy and interest to a group. Without the repetition found in the separate Gospels, the four accounts are blended into one comprehensive pre sentation of the deeds and teachings of Jesus as re corded by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This is not a harmony or commentary, but a translation of the Four Gospels which enables one to get a complete picture of the several accounts. The religious freedom which we enjoy in our great United States is the result of a noble sacrifice ‘made by the Protes tant pilgrims who settled in America to escape the tyranny of the Roman Catholic church. This freedom never exists where Roman Catholics are in power. Even in our own country they lay plans to control the boards of edu cation, police departments, courts of justice, postal systems, and other places of authority in order that they may gradually crush out every vestige of Protestantism and extol the tyranny which characterizes their religion. We Have Freedom to Speak His Word. Acts 2:4. The Word of God is the great instru ment of freedom. The truth sets us free. It fills the heart with desire for the blessing of others. It removes hatred and enmity. It dissolves differences. It fills the life with joy. Messages in spired by the Word of God and mes sengers who give the Word of God bring light, life, and liberty wherever they go. The preaching of the Word of God is the antidote and the remedy and the preventive of sin. We Have Freedom to Understand His Will. 1 John 5:20. Protestants are not bound by the hoary traditions of monks and priests. We read the Word of God and find in it the mind and will of God. Our own minds and hearts are brought into some measure of union with that of the Heavenly Father. As we read the his tory in the Scripture and the precepts
of the Word of God, and see how God dealt with men and with nations, we learn His thoughts and ways and seek to practice them ourselves. This is the blessed heritage of those who live in our free country, unhindered by reli gious persecution. We Have Freedom to Pray in His Name. Phil. 4:6. In priest-ridden countries, Mary is interposed between the sorrowing soul and the Lord Jesus. No one is permitted to come to Christ except over the hur dles of the priest, the church, the saints, and Mary. Protestants, however, having met the Saviour by faith, learn to talk with Him directly and through Him approach the Father confidently. By trusting Christ, we take His Name. We own no other Name. We recognize no other authority. The name of Jesus is sufficient to satisfy our souls. We Have Freedom to Give to His Service. 2 Cor. 9:6. ’ In Protestantism, giving is for a godly purpose—for the spread of the gospel, the distribution of the Bible, the salvation of the heathen. Only in a Protestant country does this freedom exist. Rome demands all the money she can possibly extort from her followers and uses it for purposes which the church devises. Rome offers the only graft that does not cease at death. The gifts of those who follow false cults are used for the propagation of their false doctrines. Christians give to exalt Christ and to make known His love and grace.
