some of the preparation which was made. I will pull this piece of paper up a little, and we see the name “JOSEPH.” The angel helped to prepare him, for we read, “ Fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost” (Matt. 1:20). Next, we find that Mary was prepared. Luke 1:35, “ That holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” The wise men were prepared, for they said, “We have seen his star in the east” (Matt. 2:2). The shepherds were pre pared, Luke 2:12, “ And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” Caesar was prepared, in that he needed money, “And it came to pass those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed” (Luke 2:1). Next, we see that the WORLD was prepared by the taxation (Luke 2:1). The city of Bethlehem is mentioned in Luke 2:15, and helped in the prepara tion for the coming of Christ. ■ Objects; A letter, addressed and stamped, and an imitation signboard, cut from cardboard with the name of a local town on it. Lesson: Who can tell me what this is? Yes, it is a signboard. It reads, “ Los Angeles, 10 miles.” (Substitute any local town.) The arrow on the signboard tells the direction of the town. All of you know that this is a letter I hold in my other hand. It, too, has the name “ Los Angeles” written on it. Letters and signboards are very dif ferent, although they may have the name of the same town written on them. What is the difference? I hear someone say, “ The signboard tells you which way to go, and the letter goes for you.” Yes, that is a good answer. The sign board says, “You go,” and the letter says, “ I’ll go for you.” Signboards and letters are like peo ple. There are many people in the world who, when there is a hard task to be done, say, “ You go. I will stay here.” They may point the way correctly, but they never go themselves. They are good at telling others what to do, but they never do the thing themselves. Now look at this faithful letter. It is properly addressed and stamped. All I need to do is to drop it in a letter box, and it will go to deliver my mes sage. Another thing which should be remembered about this letter is that it will deliver every word I give it. It will not add to or take from my message. As I look at this faithful letter, I am reminded of John the Baptist, of whom it was said, “ Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me” (Mai. 3:1). 1:76, 77 we read, “And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the, remission of their sins.” God is looking for people who are willing to be “ letters” for Him, faithfully deliv ering His messages.

my glory.” And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood: “ If any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he can not commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adul tery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.- And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore he is justified” (Joseph Smith —Doctrine and Covenants, Sect. 182:4, 61,62., 1944 ed). “Now if any of you deny the plurality of wives and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned; and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given, and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned. But the saints who live their religion will be exalted” (President Brigham Young at the Bow ery, Provo, Utah, Saturday, July 14th, 1855). “Hence the laws of some of our States, which recognize polygamy as a crime, are at once both unscripturat, and unconstitutional, as well as im moral” (Parley Pray, Deseret News, Jan. 16, 1856). The Bible teaches that plural mar riage is a sin: “ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife [not wives]: and they shall be one flesh” (Gen. 2:24). “Neither shall he multiply wives to himself” (Deut. 17:17). “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife [not wives]” (1 Tim. 3:2). “ Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife [not wives]” (1 Tim. 3:12). The' fifth and final article of this series by Mr. Anderson will appear in the July . issue.
