Responding to Active Threats in the Workplace Cornerstone Registration | 2 hours | Dublin Police Department

Dublin Police officers from the department’s Community Education Unit will conduct this in -person training session to provide practical, life-saving strategies in the event of an active threat situation. The training covers best practices for personal and team safety, City of Dublin building-specific emergency procedures, and how to respond effectively during a critical incident. This interactive session aims to empower staff with the knowledge and confidence to act decisively in an emergency, ensuring a safer more prepared workplace for all. The first hour of training centers around classroom discussion, including defining a threat, response strategies and real-world scenarios. The second hour includes a walk-through of City work units using a critical incident lens to examine points of egress, hiding locations, barricade options and other applicable concepts. Employees will be in small groups so they can fully participate in the building-specific portion of this training.

Objectives:

1. Understanding the Threat

• Learn about the nature of active threat situations and the types of threats specific to the workplace.

2. Response Strategies

• Master the "Run, Hide, Fight" methodology for responding to an active shooter situation.

3. Building-Specific Procedures

• Understand evacuation routes, shelter-in-place locations and emergency protocols specific to your building.

4. Emergency Communication

• Learn how to effectively communicate with co-workers, emergency personnel, and law enforcement during a crisis.

5. Immediate First Aid

• Receive an introduction to basic trauma care techniques (such as controlling bleeding) that can be applied while awaiting medical assistance.

6. Debrief & Q&A

• Participate in a debriefing session to discuss key takeaways and ask specific questions related to your building’s emergency preparedness.
