MSc Accounting & Financial Management

MSc Mathematical Finance A high-level mix of mathematic and finance disciplines taught by three of the University’s top departments: Statistics, Mathematics and WBS. This mathematically rigorous course, for those with a relevant Undergraduate degree, enables students to develop and apply the quantitative skills in machine learning, computational statistics and mathematical finance used in the financial markets and the finance industry. Students will build on their strong mathematical backgrounds to gain both a deep theoretical and conceptual knowledge of finance, together with the requisite high-level probability, statistics and mathematics, to enable them to undertake advanced quantitative modelling. Lab work will give students hands-on experience of using software packages for simulations and time series analysis, as well as learning programming for quantitative finance in three core languages: Python, C++ and R. MSc Mathematical Finance graduates have gone on to work at organisations such as Man AHL, UBS, Barclays Capital, Bank of America and Zurich Insurance Group. Students will develop a combination of business and management skills alongside advanced financial skills, leading to financial management roles for organisations outside of the finance industry. MSc Financial Technology New for 2025 entry, this interdisciplinary course will teach students to innovate and adopt new technologies to transform the financial industry, democratise finance, and accelerate financial inclusion. The course was devised out of our Gillmore Centre for Financial Technology, a world-class, cutting-edge research hub focusing precisely on this subject. Students will first be trained in quantitative methods, data science, artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, finance, and information systems. As their knowledge develops, we’ll be encouraging them to evolve their creative mindset by challenging and critically evaluating established paradigms within the field. MSc Accounting & Sustainability New for 2025 entry, our MSc Accounting & Sustainability course has been carefully constructed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and practical experience to step straight into the professional sphere, and start making a positive impact. With governments and accounting bodies defining sustainability accounting standards, expertise in this area is increasingly expected by employers in financial services and related industries (but not limited to them). Whether the intrinsically linked subject areas of accounting and sustainability are familiar or new to students, this course offers them the platform to progress their expertise. MSc Finance Providing students with a deep theoretical and conceptual knowledge of finance and quantitative skills, preparing them for a range of careers in the financial industry. As the anticipation of jobs being challenged by Artificial Intelligence becomes a reality, we aim to share the skills and depth of understanding needed to design, develop, and supervise these new forms of financial intelligence. In line with the CFA curriculum, our Ethics, Financial Regulation and Corporate Governance module offers students the opportunity to study with a European business partner. MSc Finance & Economics Delivered by WBS and the Department of Economics, this course allows students to explore the most advanced tools in finance whilst using their economics background as a springboard to increase their career options. This course is ideal for those who already have a strong grounding in economics, are highly numerate, and want to learn to apply their knowledge to finance. Students will be considering jobs in the City or in the capital markets of their own country, in areas such as asset management, corporate finance, trading, financial regulation, and economic and financial consulting and central banking. A relevant Undergraduate degree is required for this course. As the anticipation of jobs being challenged by Artificial Intelligence becomes a reality, we aim to share the skills and depth of understanding needed to design, develop, and supervise these new forms of financial intelligence.
