Presenting examples of your work accomplishments may provide immediate impact and understanding of your skills. If you have a job where you produce something, like haircuts, welds, public speaking, marketing material, you can provide documents, images or videos as examples of your ability. If you do not have evidence, it may be time to start gathering samples of your work. Some examples of ways to provide proof of a skillset to an employer include: » Tailors can wear examples of the clothing they sewed » An administrative assistant can offer a writing sample » A sales person might have a graph showing sales results » Facilitators or trainers can use participant evaluations and handouts used in presentations (with proper permissions) » Teachers can provide video of them instructing a class (with proper permissions) Work samples in a portfolio build self-confidence, prove your credibility, and show your aptitude for finishing tasks. Use them to illustrate your skills, abilities and accomplishments. After all, you should be proud of what you’ve done and you should not feel apprehensive about showing it. Once you’ve collected this information, chose an appropriate method with which to present it to the employer, for example a paper folder, online content links or combination of the two. You can also include copies of your resume, cover letter, references and letters of recommendation in the paper folder or as links, if posted publicly.
