9: THE JOB INTERVIEW
All of your work researching potential employers, creating an effective resume and engaging in networking are designed to lead up to that final essential step in the job search process: the job interview. To successfully prepare for an interview, do company research, prepare for likely questions, practice responses to match your skills to the job, and check your attitude and personal appearance.
INTERVIEW PREPARATION
Knowing the kind of information the employer is likely to seek will help you prepare for the interview.
Employers want to know your motivation for employment, your ability to do the job, how you will fit into the organization and how much you will cost them. Being able to answer probing questions in these areas will make for a successful interview. You should also create a list of questions that you want answered. Interviewing is two-way street. You are also determining whether or not the company is a good fit for you so asking questions to gather information is expected. Find out as much information as you can about the position and the company before that first interview. It will help you target your skills to the specific needs of the employer and demonstrate your enthusiasm for the job. As an interviewee, it’s up to you to convince the employer that you are the best person for the job. Be prepared to connect your skills, experience, training and education to what the hiring manager needs.
