9: THE JOB INTERVIEW
PERSONAL APPEARANCE An important part of the impression you make with an employer is your physical appearance. An employer might think that a person who doesn’t care about their appearance won’t care about the job. Neat, clean and professional is a safe standard for dress and grooming. No matter what kind of job you are applying for you should look as professional as possible. Professional attire differs from position to position but the general rule is to dress slightly better than the job would require on a day to day basis.
Here’s an introduction on looking good: » Get a good night’s sleep » Take a shower the morning of the interview » Shave or neatly trim facial hair » Brush your teeth » Comb your hair or otherwise style » Clean your fingernails » Wear clean and wrinkle free clothes, and use a lint brush » Wear clean shoes » Do not wear flip-flops or sneakers
» Conceal or take out body piercings » Avoid smoking before the interview » Do not chew gum during an interview » Do not wear sunglasses » Do not wear fragrances
