SHOW AND TELL You may be a good worker, but you have to back up statements with examples demonstrating your productivity and accomplishments in past jobs. Let employers know you can adjust, work well with others, and fit into a new environment without complaints. Tell a story from your experience that illustrates your flexibility and how you adapted to change. You should emphasize your commitment to learning. Demonstrate this through your own independent study, professional development, education, workshops and awards. Your plan for future development also communicates your commitment to learning. FINISH STRONG In the final minutes of the interview, summarize why you’re qualified by stating strengths and qualities you may not have been able to convey through answering the questions they asked. It is also important to again emphasize your interest in the position and that you are excited about the opportunity to work for their company. Ask what the next step in the hiring process is. “Will there be additional interviews?” “When will the hiring decision be made?” “Can you call back if you don’t hear from them?” Understanding their process will dictate how and when you follow-up with them.
