KEY INTERVIEW QUESTIONS TO PREPARE FOR

Employers use various interview strategies. It is important to understand why employers ask certain questions and what they are trying to find out about you when asking them. Take all questions at face value and don’t judge their relevance to the position. A best practice is to limit your answers to 60-90 seconds. Some answers will require more or less than that, but that is a general guideline to follow. CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF? This is an open-ended question often asked to help “break the ice” at the start of the interview. The important thing to remember is to keep the answer job-related. Your response to this question should be especially well-practiced. A good tip is to rephrase the question in your mind as “Tell me how your past professional experience relates to the needs of this position” . Many people offer too much personal information when they aren’t prepared for this question.

WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN WORKING FOR THIS COMPANY?

Show the employer you’ve done your research. State the positive things you’ve learned about the company and how they fit with your career goals. Mentioning that you just read an article or saw a piece on the news about the company can make a good impression. You could also mention any positive feedback you have received from your network about the company’s reputation.
