State Your Intent: In general, your letter should state your interest in the job. In the case of a letter of introduction, simply state you would like to work for the company. Use the first paragraph to express your energy, enthusiasm, skills, education and work experience that could contribute to the company’s success. Use the second and/or third paragraphs to provide information in greater detail than the resume format would allow. This should include how you have been successful in utilizing skills that are required for this current opportunity. The T-Letter Format: After the introductory paragraph, this cover letter option utilizes a two-column list to match the employer’s needs to your abilities. Pick three to five requirements from the job posting and list those on the left side under a title such as Your Requirements. In the right-hand column, under the title My Qualifications, provide examples of how you have been successful in meeting similar requirements through your prior experience. The Final Paragraph: Use the final paragraph to mention you will make a follow-up call within a week to confirm the document has been received and to ask for an interview. Thank the person for taking the time to read your letter. Use a formal, professional closing. One More Look: Be sure to proofread your letter to check content, grammar and spelling. If possible, ask someone else to review your cover letter and offer feedback. Sign printed cover letters in blue or black ink.
