Many people have been laid off through no fault of their own at some point in their careers. If you have been laid off, you can describe such circumstances when asked reasons for leaving with a phrase such as “lack of work,” “temporary employment,” “seasonal employment,” “company closed,” “company downsizing” or “corporate merger.” Layoffs have been such a common aspect of the employment landscape that hiring managers don’t hold a single layoff against applicants since many of them, or their family members, have had similar experiences. It’s more common than ever for jobseekers to have a variety of employment experiences. It’s no longer a problem to have a portfolio of different jobs on various career paths.
